According to recent research, about 35% of college students rely on loans to pay for tuition, while nearly 60% of them are worried about whether they will be able to pay off their debts in the near future.
It is true that, while there are students who get scholarships and others whose parents pay their tuition fees, a large number of students turn to loans in order to be able to study at the college of their choice.
Those students usually have at least one part-time job, and are often stressed about how they will manage to pay off their debts.
This results in harder work, sometimes at the expense of their studies, which leads to higher levels of anxiety, and is nothing but a vicious circle that certainly doesn’t help.
Kayla Cooper is one of the students who is struggling with finances.
She is studying nursing, while working two different part-time jobs in order to cover her expenses.
When she visited Auto City pre-owned car dealership in El Cajon, California, she knew it wouldn’t be easy for her to get a new car. Still, she also knew that she desperately needed it in order to go to work.
“I would have to literally pull a needle out of a haystack to try to get myself a car so I could get to work,” said Cooper.
After discussing the issue with the salesperson for some time, she realized that she couldn’t afford the car, and that’s when she broke down.
“I came to the car and I was just crying. I didn’t know what to do,” she told KGTV.
Right next to her, at another desk, chatting with a different salesperson was Dan Laguardia, a sales and marketing engineer from San Diego.
Laguardia was there to trade in his Toyota Scion, but when he heard the young girl’s plight, he knew he had to do something to help her.
He explained to KGTV:
“When I was doing my transaction, she was like at the table next to me talking to the salesperson, and I could kind of tell she wasn’t getting what she was there for.”
When the girl left, he started thinking about how he could help her.
Suddenly, he knew. He would offer her his own car.
So, he asked the salesperson to call the girl and ask her to come back. Indeed, a few minutes later, it was all settled: he signed all the necessary papers, and gave Cooper the keys to the Toyota Scion that was now hers.
The young woman couldn’t believe how lucky she was and how generous the stranger was to her.
“I was shaking, because it’s something so unreal. It’s a whole car — how can someone be so generous to give their car away?” she said. “When you think everything is really gonna come to an end, just wait and be patient because anything is possible.”
Indeed, sometimes life can surprise you in the most amazing ways.
