Many homeowners take pride in their yard, so put in lots of time making it look presentable.

Harold Storelee is one of those people who’s known for the meticulous upkeep of his yard at his Washington home. Ever since his wife passed away, yard work and tidying up have become some of his main hobbies, and he loves it.

Unfortunately, while mowing his lawn one day, he had an accident.

88-year-old Storelee fell and broke his hip. He was unable to get help until 4 hours later when a few neighborhood kids were walking nearby and heard his cry for help.

The kids immediately sprang into action and called 911 to help the man.

The West Thurston Regional Fire Authority answered the call and arrived at the scene as soon as they could. Without wasting any time, they took Storelee to the hospital by ambulance as fast as they could. But their kindness didn’t stop there.

They went above and beyond to help an elderly man.

Yes, answering the call for help was part of their job, but what wasn’t was to go back to Storelee’s home and finish up the yard work that the senior had started on his own.

The Thurston Fire Department was sure to go about their day answering other calls and serving the community in their usual way, but once their workday was done, they returned to Storelee’s home to mow the yard and tidy up the yard, just as Storelee would have done himself.

Not one person argued that when they finished their duties on the job, they would go back to the Storelee’s house. Firefighter and EMT Alexander Trautman told the Washington Post:

“There was no hesitation from anybody. We talked to our lieutenant and captain, and they were 100 percent behind it.”

He also said:

“We knew he’d be down for a while. We figured the least we could do was go back and help out.”

The story spread through the small community like wildfire, but spread even wider when one of Storelee’s grandkids posted a part of the story on Twitter.

The teen tweeted out a couple of photos, one of his grandfather in the hospital along with another of all the EMTs that came together to finish up his yard work. The tweet went viral and even gained national attention from news sites as well.

Now not only can this tight-knit community show their appreciation for their local heroes, but people across the globe can enjoy the uplifting story.

In the post, Storlee’s grandson explained:

“My granddad fell this morning while mowing the lawn and broke his hip. The EMT’s that took him to the hospital came back and finished his job for him”

He received the following sweet reply:
