For couples with one or the other in the US Army, extended deployment is one of the most difficult things to deal with.
Deployment usually ranges between 6 and 9 months, which can result in couples and families spending a long time apart.
It’s important that any family member of somebody in the army is understanding of their choice of career – but that doesn’t mean that they won’t still miss their loved ones deeply.
Videos of military members surprising their families with an early or unexpected return are always the most heartwarming. We’ve seen videos of sons and daughters surprising their parents and their children, but the most emotional reunions are always with their partners.
One video that has hit viral status on YouTube shows 2Lt. Adam Watson surprising his then-girlfriend, now-wife Danielle after not seeing each other for a couple of months.
According to the video’s caption, Danielle was under the impression that she would be picking him up on Wednesday, just before their official church wedding ceremony.
What Danielle didn’t know was that her parents had already picked him up a few days earlier. They were waiting for the perfect time to surprise Danielle with his return – and during an evening meal out, they finally found it.
In the video, Danielle is chatting to her family while a secret camera records their interaction at the table.
She’s so caught up in conversation that she has to turn around fully in her seat when the waiter arrives, carrying an armful of menus.
There’s a moment where Danielle and the waiter clock eyes, and Danielle doesn’t seem to clock onto what she’s seeing.
But then she jumps up in her seat and screams,
“Oh my God!”
Of course, the man in front of her isn’t actually here to serve drinks – he’s her boyfriend, soon-to-be-husband, Adam.
Staff members secretly watch through an open door as Danielle jumps up and gives Adam a huge hug.
Adam’s family laugh warmly, and someone says,
“Did you see the expression on her face?”
Danielle can only cling onto Adam and make up for lost time, kissing him and gazing him into his eyes. Adam breathes a sigh of relief, having obviously worked up to this moment for a long time.
It’s clear that there’s a lot of love between the pair, and continue to kiss and cuddle long after the initial surprise has worn off. Adam’s early return home must have been the best wedding surprise Danielle could have asked for.
The video has nearly 4 million views, with over 1,000 comments from people who can’t get enough of Danielle’s adorable reaction. One person wrote:
“Very sweet moment, as a man the idea of being greeted by your wife like that is very humbling and uplifting. Best wishes to them both.”
Someone else commented:
“Those first few seconds when her brain doesn’t allow her to believe her husband is standing in front of her. Then reality sets in! Very sweet moment.”
Quite a few people joked that YouTube was obviously deliberately reminding them of their own single status by suggesting this video to watch. It definitely paints a perfect picture of romance between Danielle and Adam.
