One of the many things that will drive someone “crazy” is when they realize they’ve just lost their wallet, wouldn’t you agree? It can happen to almost everyone, even to the most organized person. But if you haven’t experienced it yet, then consider yourself lucky.
Come to think of it, a typical wallet doesn’t only hold cash. There are also other valuable things on a wallet like ATM cards, credit cards, receipts, and identification cards. Though for someone who had lost their wallet, earning back the lost money is going to be easy.
However, applying for a new ATM card, credit card, and IDs is a tedious task, it consumes time, energy, and money all at the same time.
This is exactly the fearful experience that happened to a woman when she lost her wallet at Walmart.
When shopping becomes a nightmare.
It was a Saturday when Debra Crosby was peacefully shopping on a busy day at Walmart in River City in North Jacksonville. Then when she was about to checkout, Crosby noticed her wallet’s missing.
Crosby was relieved when she found money inside her purse, cash that’s enough to pay for the stuff that she grabbed. She walked out of the store with all the goods that she bought but she’s still anxious because of her missing wallet.
She sure can still earn back the money that she lost but what’s bugging her mind is something else. She was thinking about the amount of time, money, and effort, that she needs to spend in replacing her military ID and driver’s license.
Unfortunately, according to her, she needs to take off at work because the offices are not open when it’s her rest days.
But as she was driving home, an unexpected turn of events suddenly occured.
Luck is on her side.
Crosby received a notification from her ring doorbell camera. A man was at her front door, strange because she was not expecting anyone that day. But he was not there to give Crosby a visit, he was there to return her “valuables”.
As the security camera captured, the then unidentified man says, “Hey, how are you doing? I found your wallet at Walmart.”
He continues by saying, “Hey Ms. Crosby, I found your wallet at Walmart in River City. I’m going to put it by the Amazon boxes.” Then he just casually walks away, he was just literally there to return the wallet.
A “guardian angel”.
That’s how Crosby described the man who returned her wallet.
“I’m thinking wow this is super. He didn’t leave his name. He didn’t do it or the fame or fortune. He did it, I guess, for the right reason. It made me feel like what I’ve known all along that 99% of people are great, even though sometimes we focus on that 1% that do the wrong thing.”
She continued by saying:
“If he is watching this, I want him to know that he makes me so proud. I have three sons of my own and I would hope that they do the exact same thing.”
Time to meet the kindhearted man.
Crosby’s story went viral and was featured on news channels. A couple of days have passed, out of nowhere, she received a phone call from the man who returned her wallet. He only identified himself as Johnny. The two were also able to meet and greet each other, they went from strangers to friends.
Sadly, he refused to be interviewed by any news channel.
Johnny didn’t want any part of the spotlight, he just really did what he thought was the right thing to do. He didn’t want to be famous or to be rewarded either. His genuine kindness is just as pure as it could be.
A lesson no textbook can teach.
As it turns out, Crosby is a Science teacher at Yulee Middle School. According to her, she wants to use her great experience as a lesson plan about kindness. Looks like the best lessons in life are really learned through experience.
The world is indeed cruel but there is still a lot of goodness and kindness in it. That’s what we need the most right now, wouldn’t you agree?
