After Brittany Williams, a 7-year-old foster child from Henrico, Virginia, went missing in 2000, authorities assumed she had passed away.

Brittany had been residing at Rainbow Kids, a foster home run by Kim Parker.

Parker cared for children with serious medical issues and developmental disabilities – and, indeed, Brittany was no different.

Brittany had been diagnosed with AIDS after her mother had contracted the virus shortly before Brittany was born.

As a result, the 7-year-old had undergone a slew of medical treatments and needed to take AIDS medications regularly.

One day, Brittany attended a doctor’s appointment.

But after that appointment, Brittany disappeared.

Authorities questioned Kim Parker when they realized Brittany had not been attending school or her mandated court appearances. Parker claimed she had sent Brittany to live with two women in California, but police concluded that information was false.

Authorities launched a giant search to locate the little girl – even digging up Parker’s backyard – but it didn’t reveal any evidence that a murder had occurred in the home.

It did, however, reveal that Parker had been cashing and claiming the government benefits for Brittany’s care for a long time after the little girl had disappeared. Police had also received numerous complaints regarding the neglect and maltreatment of children living in Parker’s Rainbow Kids home.

Parker was ultimately charged with 73 counts of fraud and accused of taking $24,000 in government benefits intended for Brittany. She ended up taking a plea deal.

Still, what happened to Brittany Williams has always remained a mystery.

But one woman now claims to have the answer.

Kaylynn Stevenson, a 28-year-old woman from Fort Wayne, Indiana, claims that she is, in fact, Brittany Williams.

Stevenson has lived most of her life with her adoptive parents in Ohio and says that her memories of her childhood are “spotty.”

Recently, however, Stevenson became more interested in locating her biological family and learning about her roots.

“I did remember the last name ‘Williams,'” she told WWBT.

“For some reason, it’s implanted in the back of my mind.”

One day, Stevenson decided to do an online search.

She entered the terms “Williams” and “missing children” – and what she saw shocked her. “Brittany Renee Williams’ photo popped up,” she recalled.

“I woke my wife up out of her sleep and was like, ‘This is me! I know me when I see me. This is me!”

NBC helped Stevenson connect with Anastasia McElroy, the first daughter of Brittany Williams’ biological mother. Together, the two women wasted no time taking a DNA test.

In the end, it revealed the two women had a 95.83% chance of being half-sisters.

“I just started bawling and bawling,” McElroy told WWBT.

“The emotion was so powerful, it kind of took over my entire spiritual being.”

There are still a few unanswered questions, however.

Stevenson’s birth certificate shows a different date of birth than that of Brittany Williams. Stevenson has also stated that she does not have AIDS – which Brittany Williams was widely reported to have contracted from her mother at birth.

But still, Stevenson is still convinced.

“Blood does not lie and a DNA test does not lie at all.”

“So, I don’t have AIDS, but I am Brittany Renee Williams.”

Currently, the FBI is investigating Stevenson’s claims and has collected her DNA to compare to that of another potential half-sister of Brittany Williams.

So far, however, the results have not been released.
