The Pinkerton family’s journey into adoption began with a young boy named Joey in 2009.

Shannon, who grew up in a home where her parents ran a group home for children with special needs, was no stranger to the challenges and joys of caring for those with unique requirements.

After adopting Joey, who was ten at the time, at the behest of their son Cody (now 23), the Pinkertons didn’t stop there.

They went on to welcome five more teens and young adults with Down Syndrome into their home, expanding their family with love and care.

Adopting children with special needs is a lifelong commitment, a fact Shannon and Troy understand well.

Their adopted sons, Joey (23), Julian (20), Devlin (18), Cameron (23), Anthony (25), and Tracee (28), each bring their unique challenges and joys, some living with additional disabilities like dwarfism and non-verbal autism.

For the Pinkertons, it’s been a rewarding 15-year journey since they first welcomed Joey into their home.
