Melissa Surgecoff’s son Liam said hello world to the toilet. No, really.
The 38 year old mom from the North Shore area between Boston and New Hampshire thought she was passing a kidney stone.
She had irregular menstrual cycle and when she began experiencing cramps so she thought she was about to get her period.
Surprise, surprise mom!
Melissa describes her ordeal, which went from normal to painful.
“It wasn’t super alarming or a red flag, but I told myself this wasn’t normal. I went to the bathroom to get ready to go to the hospital, and I saw blood. I thought it was a good thing because it really did mean I was getting my period.”
She called her mom to see if she could go to her doctor.
Her fiance Donald Campbell, 37, stood by the door as she sat on the toilet trying to find relief with any position she could think of.
Sitting on the toilet gave Melissa relief but the pain proved to be too much.
She began screaming up until she felt something come out of her.
“I look in the toilet and I still didn’t know what it was. And I thought I basically lost an organ because I didn’t know!”
But when Campbell went in to look, he saw that it was indeed a baby.
“I started to pick it up very slowly and realized it wasn’t breathing at all.”
Melissa was in shock and almost in a panic but it was a good thing Donald knew what to do after watching his favorite TV shows.
He used his shirt to clean out the eyes and nostrils of his baby boy and after about ten to fifteen seconds, the baby began to breathe.
And so did Donald and Melissa.
EMTs from Salem Hospital arrived a few moments later, taking both mother and newborn to the hospital with Campbell following behind.
The good news is that Liam is healthy.
Just not the way he wanted to enter this world. Imagine him hearing this story when he grows up.
Looking back, Melissa says all the signs of pregnancy were there.
The swollen feet, weight gain, and heartburn were all the telltale signs of a life growing inside a mother’s womb.
Donald and Melissa have been together since 2014 and had planned to get married in September 2020 but the coronavirus pandemic had them postponing their plans.
But they do plan on tying the knot, this time as parents.
From having multiple sclerosis, to what she thought was a kidney stone, turned out to be a healthy 6 pounds and 6 ounces baby boy.
And would you look at the little guy! Liam is so handsome!
We’re just happy that the toilet was clean. Because really, imagine if it weren’t.
Donald and Melissa say that they only want one kid but you never know… Liam was a surprise after all.
