While only 4 years old, Max often helps bring the packages that get delivered to their suburban Illinois home. The family’s home in Oak Park, on Ridgeland Avenue, is just like any other in the neighborhood.

However, when Max tried to get a 97-pound package last Wednesday, he found himself in a dangerous situation.

The box tumbled over as Max tried to get it, trapping him underneath

It was a frightening moment and all that Max could do is to cry for help.

He was too late to realize the package the UPS driver delivered to the porch earlier was way too heavy for him. “I was scared I was going to fall down the stairs,” Max said.

It must’ve been quite scary for a boy who weighs only 40 pounds to be trapped under a package more than twice his weight!

At this crucial moment, Max’s guardian Angel came to the rescue!

Unbeknownst to Max, the package man heard his cries and was quick to rush to his aid! He raced across the busy street and lifted the heavy package to release Max.

“As soon as I saw the package tilt, I just started running back to it,” Angel said.

Marco Angel, a UPS driver literally turned out to be Max’s guardian angel on that faithful day! He later told the media he did not hesitate for a moment, explaining that his fast reaction was due to his parental instinct.

“I pictured my boys in his situation. Obviously, you go into, kind of, full parent mode or full dad mode to make sure the kid is all right.”

‘You are our angel’

Max’s mom described Marco as an angel and his dad was proud of the way ‘he flew in and helped him.

“I’m just happy that I was able to get that box off him, because the box did weigh. I [was] just hoping the little boy is all right. That’s all I want.””

No harm came to the boy during the incident. He was excited and thankful to his rescuer and is now relaxing on the contents of the package that fell on top of him, a hammock. They had a talk with Max about opening the door when no adult is around and he is sure to be more careful in the future!

Being a hero is all about doing the right thing

The Pratt family considers Marco their guardian angel but he’s remained modest and is happy for being in the right place at the right time. Max’s parents thanked Marco personally for saving their son through a virtual meeting set up by the local media.
