Heroes, they do exist.

We are not talking about fictional superhero characters that are commonly portrayed in movies and TV shows.

The heroes that we are referring to are real-life heroes who are willing to put everything at stake, even their own lives, just to save another.

If you are thinking about our mighty policemen, firefighters, everyone in the medical field, and soldiers, then you are absolutely right.

However, they aren’t the only ones who are willing to risk it all just to do the right thing, especially when talking about saving someone’s life.

Being at the right place and at the right time.

In Giles County, Tennessee, a brave 18-year-old girl is now being called a hero for saving a stranger stuck on the railroad tracks last week.

That fateful day, Lilly Baker was on her way to meet friends when she saw an older lady having a tough time crossing the tracks with a wheelchair.

Quickly, she quickly stepped out of her car, rushed towards the woman, and tried her very best to pull the lady to safety, but they fell down twice.

Then from afar, she noticed a train coming right at them.

“He was honking his horn and the lights started flashing, I was like, ‘Oh no, we gotta go now!'” recalled Baker.

She said she managed to pull both of them out of the way just in time.

She managed to save a life but was literally inches away from losing her own.

“It’s a near-death experience, and I’ve never really been that close to death,” she said. “[The railroad company] told me that I was 18 inches away from getting hit by the train and that in itself gave me the chills. I almost started crying.”

Ardmore Police Chief Jereme Robison, who was there, says he has seen a lot, but nothing like this.

“It hits home like, ‘Oh my god, it was that close,'” the Police Chief said. “Bravery comes in all shapes and sizes. You don’t have to be a 6’5 guy that’s muscled up to get out and do something. This is a little small young woman, and she has done what most people wouldn’t do.”

When asked whether she’d do it again if needed, her response was inspiring.

Lilly says she would do it all over again.

“I’d tell [the woman] that I’m thankful for her. She doesn’t have to be thankful for me because I’m grateful for her,” she said.

Lilly is a senior in high school and wants to be a nurse in the future.

The woman Lilly saved is in the hospital and recovering. She has major leg injuries but is expected to be OK.

Lily’s story of selflessness and bravery made quite a few rounds all over the internet and some local news sites and channels.

People who learned the story have nothing but praise for the courageous 18-year-old hero.

One viewer commented, “Would a nursing scholarship be appropriate for this young lady?”

“She should be honored with a Presidential Award for Bravery,” wrote another.

While this viewer couldn’t believe how close Lily was to being hit by the train, “Wow 1 foot 6 inches!!!!!!! For being hit that’s too close of a call for me you are very very lucky !!!!”
