Patriotism is shown by giving importance to everything that represents the country. And the thing that represents our nation from the rest is the American flag.

The star-spangled banner is a symbol of the United States of America and simply caring for it is already a sign of patriotism.

A teenage boy from Florida has been going around Palm Beach County and singling out businesses with flagpoles but no flags.

This young man has made it his mission to make sure that all these local establishments have their own flags on their property. This is not just because he wants to show loyalty to the United States of America, but it is also something that keeps him calm and focused.

Matthew Amatulli, 16 years old, has autism. When he was still young, the teen started fixing flags that were ripped and damaged. This was after he learned how to sew from his grandmother.

The way the flag moved always kept Matthew calm.

This must be the reason why he is drawn to the American flag and could not take it if he sees one that is ripped or damaged. Ever since he knew how to sew, Matthew began bringing tattered flags home to sew back together and make them new again.

He then goes back to the place where he found them and returns them to the owners, all fixed and better.

“If there is a business that has a pole without a flag on it, and it is working, then he will ask if he can put his flag up there,” Angela Amatulli, his mother, told CBS 12. “I keep telling him he needs to start his business soon because I can’t afford to keep buying all of these parts.”

Matthew deeply cares about flags. He and his mom even drove to State Route 7 just to remove flags before the typhoon hit.

“He is a very old soul and he just loves the American flag,” his mother shared further. “Not many children do, not even adults think twice.”

Businesses in the locality have been accommodating and supporting Matthew with his love for fixing flags. They have been allowing the young man to take down their flags and refurbish them to look like new once again.

Keeping Matthew busy with flag fixing does not come cheap, though.

Angela shared that buying the materials that Matthew needs for his flag-fixing is not cheap at all. She hopes that her son can make a business out of his hobby to make up for the expenses of fixing those flags.

“I keep telling him he needs to start his business soon,” Angela said. “Because I can’t afford to keep buying all of these parts.”
