Sometimes, you can be saved by the most unlikely person. A toddler isn’t someone you’d count on to get you out of danger. Usually, it’s you who’s working to keep them away from danger.

But this toddler did something very different.

This toddler in Texas saved his family from a fire when they didn’t notice it.

These took place on the 15th of January earlier this year.

The Dahl family had a very close call with a house fire. And their 2-year-old is the only reason they can tell us this story.

2-year-old Brandon Dahl is the hero of this story, and he’s not even old enough to realize it yet.

Having caught COVID-19 recently, the Dahl family was recovering at home without their sense of smell or taste.

We’ve all been there if we’ve caught it too. Aside from the fatigue and coughing, we can’t enjoy our favorite foods.

And the part about not being able to smell played a big part in this story too.

So when a fire broke out in their home that night, they couldn’t smell the smoke or the flames.

A pretty unfortunate time to not be able to smell, you’ve got to admit. What are the odds that you’d be without your sense of smell on a day when you’d need it the most?

Well, those odds came for the Dahl family.

Brandon ran into his parents’ room, tapped his mom’s feet, and exclaimed “Mama hot! Mama hot!”

They got up instantly and began evacuating the house. The fire had already spread rather far, as shown by the aftermath.

“Everything is gone. We lost my car. Everything inside the house.” – Kayla, Brandon’s mother, said of the damage

The toddler had actually saved their lives – and some fire safety training from dad made it possible too.

Nathan Dahl, Brandon’s dad, is a volunteer firefighter and had given fire safety training to the whole family. He taught them everything from being cautious of stoves to knowing how to evacuate during a fire.

And despite being only 2, Brandon remembered what his dad taught him.

It was that 2-year-old that let them live to tell this story. Kayla Dahl spoke fondly of how their little boy was their guardian angel that night.

“Brandon saved us. He was wrapped in God’s arms to help protect him and to make sure that our entire family was able to get out.”

The fire was no joke. Everything inside and outside the house was lost, and they lost the car as well.

But their family is still together, and that’s all that matters now. They’re currently residing in a rental home.

It’s nothing short of miraculous to be rescued by a toddler barely old enough to speak. Even more so when he was the only one who could smell smoke that night.

The Dahl family is blessed to be alive, and it’s Brandon who happens to be that blessing.
