All kids can agree that when someone farts it’s the funniest thing ever. In fact, most adults still find it just as funny.
Lightening the mood
So when one teacher wanted to lighten the mood on her online teaching class this month, she knew what to do.
Class with third graders
Emma Ginder, a third-grade teacher in Topeka, was talking to her school children over Zoom about their “journeys books”, when the undeniable noise of a loud fart echoed through the air.
There was a brief but heavy silence, before Emma, unable to help herself, burst out laughing and had to turn away from her screen.
An unforgettable Zoom class
That was all the permission her kids needed to laugh too, and the next minute, the Zoom meeting was in chaos.
If Emma’s reaction was amusing, her schoolkids’ are even more hilarious.
One little boy asks,
“What was that?”
And another one agrees, saying,
“What was that?”
The first guy replies,
“I think she farted.”
And that’s all it takes to set them off laughing their heads off. The camera, picking up the noise of all their giggling, flicks from one kid to another, each unable to quieten their laughter.
When one kid says, “That was a big one,” the situation only gets funnier.
Claiming she doesn’t know who did it
Emma tries to salvage the situation, claiming that she doesn’t know who that was, while one of her kids argues,
“It was you!”
Another 20 seconds of laughing later, Emma tries again to calm down the kids. She says,
“I don’t know who it was, but whoever was might be a little embarrassed, so let’s stop.”
One of the kids adamantly replies, “I still blame you” – and if you consider yourself something of a Zoom expert after this year, you can probably see his point!
Zoom is designed to automatically put the focus of attention on whoever is making noise. That way, everyone in a Zoom meeting can see who’s talking and keep up with what’s being said.
Now, when the fart occurred, the camera stayed on Emma – which means it came from her end.
If you’d already figured this out, give yourself a pat on the back! Emma played a fake fart noise to “lighten the mood” – and it looks like it worked a treat.
Sharing the video to Facebook, she wrote:
“Some days you just have to play a toot sound during class to lighten the mood. Way too good not to share. Also, I apologize for having the maturity of an 8 year old boy ๐”
The post has 39,000 reactions and more than 7,000 comments, reaching viral status in a matter of days.
Everyone agreed that Emma’s immaturity was much needed right now, with one person writing:
“I love it! The distance learning kids need the humor. Good job teacher?”
Someone else commented:
“omg I love this so much๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ they are so darling. The boy in the green dying of laughter. Kidโs are the best”
One person, a fellow teacher, confessed:
“um, this may have really happened to me and I may have played it off as a squeaky shoe…๐ณ”
Considering how popular her post became, it looks like a lot of people shared Emma’s humor!
