It doesn’t take a lot to be a blessing to others.

You just need to do the right thing when you’re in the right place at the right time.

In a neighborhood on Woodland Parkway Northeast, a UPS driver was making his routine deliveries. But little did he know, that day would become more than just ordinary.

Delivery services make our lives a bit more convenient as they put the things we need right on our doorstep. But during one of his deliveries, Kevin Aiken stopped at a doorway but not because he had a package to leave.

As he was driving down the street, he smelled something was burning.

He knew it was the kind of smell that you can’t just ignore, but it also wasn’t the kind that came from a neighbor’s barbecue grill. He continued to drive so he could investigate until he saw the house where the smoke was coming from.

A doorway was burning right in front of him.

But instead of just driving off to make his deliveries, Aiken stopped and immediately called 911.

The couple, who didn’t want to use their names in the interview, managed to escape together with their young son and newborn child. They made their way out the basement door as their front door was engulfed in flames.

Things could’ve been much worse if not for Aiken.

If the UPS driver hadn’t investigated the burning smell or alerted the authorities immediately, the fire could’ve spread through the house and other neighboring lots. But thanks to his actions, the family will only have to repair their front door and porch.

“By the time we got outside, the fire department was already on the way and here putting the fire out.” The man told 23 ABC News.

As for Aiken, he only did what he thought was needed to be done.

He saw a house burning and he felt that he couldn’t just drive away without calling for help or seeing if the people are okay. He hopes that as he does things for others, other people will do the same for him when he needs it the most.

“I have a home and wife and kids and I’d like to think that someone else would do the same thing. I don’t know, it just seemed like the right thing to do at that time.” Aiken said to the news outlet.

It also was not the first time Aiken helped those in need. Among other things, he also helped people push their cars out of the snow.

All seemingly small actions but ends with a very big impact on others.

“He’s always got a smile on his face and honks the horn and just the kindest man you can find. It’s a blessing that he does routes in this area.” The man said, describing Aiken to the news outlet.

His actions serve as a reminder that whenever we find ourselves in a moment where we can do something, we should not hesitate. We’ll never know whose lives we’ll save whenever we choose to do the right thing.
