The entrepreneurial spirit can live in any one of us, no matter the age. A young boy and his sister decided to sell some candy to people who passed by outside of a Target. A lot of people stopped for some treats and to support the two kids, but then an elderly and rude woman decided to create a scene.
The woman scolded the little boy and was extremely rude, making everyone around uncomfortable.
She was lecturing him for minutes and was clearly angry for no reason. At one point, she even asked if the boy had a license to sell candy or if he had permission to stall his candy on the street.
One of the witnesses decided to take out her smartphone and capture the altercation on tape. Andy Lizarraga, who just left the Target store in Rowland Heights, California, then posted the video on her personal Facebook page where it quickly went viral.
Over six million people have seen the footage, and everyone agrees that this woman had no right to be this angry or make this child feel uncomfortable.
Plenty of people then told the woman that she had to leave the boy and his sister alone, but she insisted on making a scene.
“Outside of Target, someone was selling candy,” Andy wrote on her Facebook page. “As my mom and I were walking away, a lady went up to this person and told them she wanted to see their license to sell. She started harassing him to the point where he started to cry. A group [of] people went up to her and told her to leave him alone.”
When the woman kept harassing the child screaming questions such as “Do you have permission to be here?” and “Where is your license”, the little boy simply tells her that he’s just trying to make a couple of dollars.
According to Andy, she even threatened him with calling the police and being thrown in jail.
Understandably, the boy is overwhelmed by emotions and started crying. The woman simply proceeds to belittle him without any remorse.
Luckily, one man decided that he had heard enough and decided to respond appropriately.
Shopper Jay Lopez immediately decided to intervene and approach both the woman and the young boy. He had some hefty words with the lady but decided not to focus too much on her because he knew this was a discussion not worth having.
“I’m buying it all,” he said while pointing at the boy’s candy. “I’m gonna buy it all, and I’m gonna give it away to all these people. You should be ashamed of yourself.”
Jay asked the little boy how much everything would cost, and he responded with around seventy dollars. Even though everybody likes sweets, the good Samaritan couldn’t possibly eat all of those treats by himself – so he decided to make a gesture and give away all of the candy to the people around.
The video stops when Jay goes inside to get the money, but Andy and plenty of eyewitnesses can confirm that the man did, in fact, buy all of the sweets and handed them out.
“A man came up and started voicing his opinion and bought $80 worth of candy and started giving it away to the group of people,” Andy added. “There are good people and bad people in this world and i saw it first hand. Scr** all you ignorant people that have to complain about something.”
The little boy’s sister, not shown on the footage, was very shocked by the whole thing as well.
“She continued to yell at her and scream at [the boy’s sister] and tell her if she didn’t have a permit, that she was going to go to jail, that sheriffs were on their way,” Lopez said to KCBS. “When I walked up, she was crying hysterically.”
“Mind your own business. Take care of yourself and your family and everything will come together for you,” he concluded.
There’s really no point in being so mean and relentless to small children trying to make some money. Luckily, this stranger stepped up to put the mean lady in her place!
