You will never know when lady luck is on your side.
We tend to view luck as something that could affect our daily lives. We sometimes deem ourselves lucky even at the smallest things – like getting the last stock of an item you badly need.
But we also view luck as something grand – like winning the lottery.
It is almost impossible to win one. The probability of getting the correct number combination to win the jackpot (yes, if you do the math right). So when someone wins the lottery, we think that luck is on their side.
In Tarzana, Los Angeles, a woman found herself in disbelief in this unusual lottery story.
LaQuerda Edwards was in Vons Supermarket and wanted to try her luck on the lottery that day. She went to a lottery vending machine to get her usual scratch cards with a $40 bet.
But as she was about to select the game, someone bumped hard into her.
The force and impact of that physical contact resulted in LaQuerda pushing the wrong button. She pushed for a 200X Scratchers ticket that costs $30 a ticket.
This irritated her so much. Plus, the guy didn’t even say sorry.
He rudely bumped her and simply walked through the door like nothing had happened. What irked her even more was that she wanted to spend her $40 for a cheaper scratch card to have more chances of winning, but she got only one for a hefty price.
LaQuerda went to her car with the only scratch card she had.
She started scratching the card, hoping she would get something worth it from what it cost. Or else it was a total waste of money. Excitement built up as she scratched off the ticket one by one. Much to her surprise, that “rude” accident was a blessing in disguise.
She discovered she had just won the lottery’s top prize of $10 Million!
LaQuerda was in utter disbelief. She drove away thinking about the scratch card by her passenger’s seat.
“I didn’t really believe it at first, but I got on the 405 freeway and kept looking down at (the ticket), and I almost crashed my car. I pulled over, looked at it again and again, scanned it with my (California Lottery mobile) app, and I just kept thinking this can’t be right,” she told California Lottery.
It turned out it was right. She won the $10 Million jackpot!
LaQuerda planned to spend the money to buy a house that she would finally own. She also planned to start a non-profit organization to help those in need.
This happened in November last year but was only made public recently for safety purposes.
ABC7 recently covered this story, and the people in the comments section were all astounded by this news. Most people said that this win was meant for her. What we thought was an accident turned out as a blessing in disguise.
