Denzel Washington, for all his accomplishments and accolades, is one of Hollywood’s most humble, most amazing men.
He works hard, loves his family, and is outspoken about his faith. Denzel has been known to go around giving speeches about his life with the same message in the end.
God is in control.
“Put God first.” Take those words to heart. And you should since it comes from a man who’s traveled the world, met so many people, and experienced his own hardships in life.
Washington could have gone down the typical Hollywood route. The fame, the glory, the parties and the drugs. He’s a handsome man too so he could have had all the women.
But no. Not Denzel Washington.
Denzel remained grounded. He’s a powerful man in the industry. When Washington talks, the media and the world listens. And he has chosen to use that voice to send out a clear message.
God is in control.
Denzel talks about his mom and how she kept telling him that there were so many people praying for her son. In fact, she was responsible for some of those prayer groups.
“Put God first in everything you do.” Denzel says.
For everything he’s done, and everything he’s accomplished, and that’s a huge list, Washington says everything he has is by the grace of God.
The actor shares that when he was in a beauty parlor, a woman was looking at him. That woman then asked for a pen saying she had a prophecy regarding the young man about to flunk school.
March 27, 1975. The woman says that he was going to travel the world and speak to millions of people.
At that point, the young Denzel didn’t yet know what he was going to do. And yet he did travel the world. Denzel bathed in lights and camera flashes, using his star power to motivate and inspire people.
“I’ve been protected. I’ve been directed. I’ve been corrected.”
The actor says he always kept God in his life and it kept him humble. Even during those times he didn’t always stick with God, God stuck with him. That’s God’s promise for all of us.
Washington goes on to say that you cannot take your money with you when you die.
“It’s not how much you have. It’s what you do with what you have.”
There is joy in giving.
Denzel wants you to get on your knees every morning. Pray. And thank God for everything you have in your life right now. He is living proof that humility and gratitude unlocks the heart of the Lord.
For a man who’s played so many different roles in so many movies, that’s awesome advice.
See, Washington speaks wisdom. And a man can only speak wisdom when he is filled with God. Denzel is moved to share with people why sticking to God is always the best plan.
Because Denzel put God first. And when God is in control, life is so much better.
