Army Private Second Class Brett Beaver had been away from his home and family for over a year. When he was given leave, he only had one mission in mind: surprise his younger brother, Max. Their surprise reunion will leave you in heartwarming tears. The bonds of brotherhood cannot be weakened by distance.
The love these two brothers share is amazing.
Brett Beaver had been stationed at Fort Myers in Virginia for over a year, states away from his family in Michigan. Brett’s younger brother, Max, is deaf, so communication during their time apart was limited to FaceTime calls.
Brett told M Live that, “It’s kind of hard being away from home, because we really love each other.”
Brett flew back to Michigan for his leave but did not tell Max that he was coming home.
Once the plane landed, Brett’s first stop was to Max’s school, Michigan School for the Deaf. Brett was so excited to surprise his brother, he did not even let the staff know he was coming. Once the staff found out who Brett was and why he was there, they became excited to surprise Max.
“I just walked in and they were like, ‘Who are you?’” Matt laughingly recalled to M Live, “They asked, ‘Does he know you’re here?’ and I said no, and they got all excited.”
The staff helped Brett with his surprise by hiding Brett behind Max’s classroom door. A staff member signed to Max that there was a surprise for him. Max thought he might be in trouble and came out of the door nervously. The open door was still blocking Brett, but once Max set his eyes on his brother, he ran straight into his arms.
Max jumped into Brett’s arms with the biggest hug he could possibly give.
Max is clearly emotional but does not want to show it as he hides his face in the embrace with his brother. The brothers started to communicate through sign, which Brett explained for those that do not understand sign language.
Brett asked, “What’s wrong? Don’t cry,” and Max responded, “’I’m not crying’ and and then he just hides (his face) away.”
The brothers hug for around thirty seconds, but Max still has other priorities he must attend. Brett might be on leave, but Max is not. Max hilariously jumps out of Brett’s arm and signs to his brother,
“I’ll see you again, I got to go back to art class.”
Max, the responsible student, is over the moon that his brother is home, but he still keeps his school a priority. This causes great smiles and laughter from both brothers but it does not stop Max from walking right back into his art classroom.
Brett’s leave is longer than just that moment, so Max knows he will have more brother bonding time later.
The pure emotion from both brothers, show how close they really are. Many soldiers choose to see their parents or significant others first, but not Brett. His most important relationship is with his little brother. Brett told M Live,
“The first person I would take a bullet for would be him.”
Brett uploaded the video and it quickly went viral. Brett knew that many viewers would not be able to understand sign language, so he included a translation of all the sign language used in the video. This can be found as the first pinned comment on the video page.
