A deserving 3rd-grade teacher gets a special holiday visit.
A Secret Santa in Idaho Falls has been recognizing some very deserving individuals this holiday season. East Idaho News has been helping this very generous Secret Santa by delivering gifts to those in need. On their most recent trip, East Idaho News traveled to Cloverdale Elementary School where they met Mrs. Susan Drouin. Drouin teaches third grade at the school and has no idea that she has been selected as the next Secret Santa recipient.
Gifts for a selfless teacher.
Nate Eaton, of East Idaho News, walks into Drouin’s classroom and asks the children if they know of anyone by the name of Susan. The realization on Mrs. Drouin’s face is priceless. She is speechless as Eaton walks over to her to tell her that she has been nominated for a Secret Santa gift. Fellow staff had nominated Susan to receive a Secret Santa because she is always going above and beyond to help her students and fellow teachers. She did so much for others even while her husband was at home, unable to work due to his cancer diagnosis.
She couldn’t believe it was all for her.
After learning that she would be the Secret Santa recipient, Susan told Eaton that she had actually nominated someone else. “I nominated a fellow teacher so I thought (Eaton) was in the wrong classroom,” Drouin told East Idaho News. “I’m telling him, ‘You need to go to a different classroom because this isn’t for me because I nominated a different teacher.” But there was no mistake…Susan was the one being recognized.
Susan receives her Secret Santa gifts.
Eaton gives Susan two gift boxes with a $1,000 check and a $1,000 gift card to a craft store. She is shocked at the generous surprise gifts but the best is yet to come.
Susan opens her final gift.
Inside the box, Susan sees a set of keys. She immediately is overcome with emotion and joy.
Secret Santa goes big.
Susan was now the proud owner of a brand new car. It’s obvious that this was a much-needed surprise for someone who always puts others before herself.
“I was totally blown away and surprised and overwhelmed…It was just an amazing feeling.” – Drouin told East Idaho News
More surprises are around the corner.
As if a brand new car wasn’t enough, Secret Santa continued to shower Susan with more gifts. Eaton went back to the elementary school to tell Susan she would be receiving a $10,000 check. Susan was also invited to be on the “Tamron Hall Show” to talk about her experience. She was surprised again when Hall gave each student in Susan’s classroom a special audio story device called Lunii Experience. She made sure to tell her class to pay it forward.
The Secret Santa project is ongoing during the holiday season all thanks to an individual who wishes to bring joy to his community.
