How many of us have that one best friend from our younger years who knew almost everything about us?

Are you still friends with them now?

Unfortunately, there are some people who lose contact with their childhood best friends. It’s easy to promise that they’ll be friends forever.

But life happens. According to The Atlantic, “people’s priorities and responsibilities shift, and friendships are affected, for better, or often, sadly, for worse.”

When we were younger, we were still forming our identities, our wants, and needs. And once we reach young adulthood, we tend to look for other people with the same interests, ambitions, and values.

It’s not a bad thing. It’s just life happening.

Do you know the saying, “when you love someone, set them free. If they come back, they’re yours?”

It’s not only true for romantic relationships. It also applies to friendships.

Even if you drift apart after high school or college, when your friendship is strong enough, you will always come back to each other.

Such is the case with Living Hope Cancer Foundation co-founder, Chuck Keels.

Chuck and his wife, Hannah, both cancer survivors, founded the Living Hope Cancer Foundation to support cancer survivors and help them live healthier lives.

“Working with cancer patients is deep in our hearts,” Chuck said, “and our stories are giving people hope and guidance. After everything we had gone through, we knew we needed to do this full-time, and the only way we could do it was to start a 501(c) nonprofit.”

Chuck was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in 2015 and he was given three months to live.

“Because the cancer had spread to my bones, I ended up in the hospital with a broken back. After two surgeries, I had a spiritual event where I saw a vision of Jesus, and I started healing so fast that the doctors told me that my journey was not medical, it was miraculous,” Chuck shared.

This is what inspired him to continue to help other cancer patients and survivors and eventually start the foundation.

And there was one more thing that possibly happened because he had shared his story.

After 26 years, after he had survived stage 4 prostate cancer, he was reunited with his friend, Tony Washington.

Chuck and Tony went to college together but went their separate ways shortly after college. According to Chuck, God has sent them on different journeys, that’s why they lost touch with each other.

But after 26 years, they are finally back together.

Tony was anxious and restless while he waited for Chuck to open his front door. And when Chuck opened the door, he had the biggest smile on his face.

Tony just rushed to give Chuck a big hug and kept saying how he missed his old buddy. Chuck kept patting Tony’s back as if to check if he was indeed real and inside his house.

They released each other from the hug and just stared at each other with big smiles. It’s so amazing to be reunited with good old, dependable friends.

“They still got the jokes even after 26 years, now that’s true friends,” smelly bean shared.

“True friendship is when you haven’t seen your friends for years but instantly connect the moment you meet them again,” Inflake said.
