A nurse in Massachusetts had fate decide for her when she nearly gave up on being a mother. She had longed to be a mother for years, but nothing seemed to work.

Then a baby was born at the hospital she worked as a nurse in, and that’s where our story begins.

The setting was the Franciscan Children’s Hospital in Brighton Massachusetts.

There, a baby girl was born to a mother who’d been battling a drug addiction.

Our baby girl was all alone in the nursery. Her mom hadn’t come back to see her in 5 months. No one knew at the time if the family would ever come to claim the girl.

The nurse, named Liz Smith, came upon the baby after her coworkers told her about it.

Liz had it rough the last few years. Since 2016, she came out of a rough breakup and struggled to fulfil her goal of becoming a mother. Every method she could think of wasn’t working, and she began to fear even more.

She even said herself that becoming a nurse was easier than becoming a mother.

That truly puts into perspective how close she was to giving up hope.

But it’s a good thing Liz didn’t give up trying to be a mother, because fate had other plans for her.

Liz crossed paths with the baby one fateful day as she was leaving the medical unit.

Inside a stroller was an adorable baby girl who Liz asked the name of. “Gisele” was the name, they told her.

Gisele was close to being sent to foster care.

Her parents hadn’t come in 5 months, and the staff couldn’t just leave this baby at the hospital.

Liz already had a brewing feeling that she was meant to cross paths with Gisele.

She fostered the girl for a while. Gisele eventually grew close to her heart.

Gisele had cocaine and other drugs in her system that she absorbed from her mom while in the womb. A terrible thing to be born with, but Liz was here now to help her overcome it.

The baby girl had eat through a gastronomy tube as well. Gisele had it rougher than most infants, but she’d make it through.

It was on a night that Liz looked upon Gisele while she was feeding and realized how much she meant to her now.

Perhaps she knew this would happen, but now she couldn’t bear the thought of being separated from the baby girl. They’d spent 9 months together now.

Liz spent a long time with Gisele – a span of time that the parents also spent away from the girl.

That ended up being a deciding factor.

After that time, the local government decided to revoke their parental rights. They tried to appeal the decision to no success.

Liz had wanted to be a mother for so long, and this baby girl was in dire need of one. So she just knew she had to adopt the girl.

But it wasn’t an easy choice. Liz felt some compassion for the family that was losing her. It may not have totally been their fault, but nothing could be done about it now.

And so it happened that Liz and Gisele found a family in one another. It was what Liz wanted for so long.

Liz officially adopted Gisele when the girl was 2-years-old, and it was the best thing to happen to both of them. Gisele is now a happy little girl with the purest smile, and Liz is living happily as the mother she always wanted to be.
