There aren’t enough good things to say about the selfless men and women who serve in the military. They selflessly leave their families and put their lives on the line for our country. It’s not an easy task but these special men and women bravely take it on.
It’s stressful
Even when someone in the military is deployed for a few months, not only is it stressful for that individual but also the family they left back at home. Then for those who are gone a year or two, things become even more difficult to deal with.
In harm’s way
National deployment is hard enough but for the military personnel who go overseas to regions of war, loved ones worry…a lot. All they want is for their husband, wife, daughter, son, or other relative to return safe and healthy.
Beautiful reunions
If you watch videos online, you’ve probably seen a reunion or two. While some family members know their loved one is getting ready to get off a plane, others are surprised. Every deployment reunion is special but one that’s garnered more than 4.6 million views is extra touching.
Having fun playing tennis
This video begins with a woman in a bright yellow tank top playing tennis with a friend. She’s laughing and having a really good time. Little does she know that something fantastic is about to happen.
In on the secret
Whoever is filming her play knows what’s going on. In just a minute, she’ll come face to face with her son who’s been deployed. This was his second deployment to Afghanistan, which is frightening to think about.
An early surprise
Although this mom knew her son would be home soon, his arrival wasn’t expected for another month. So, on this particular day, she’s simply having fun playing tennis. But soon, the person taking the video starts to walk away from the court. The next thing you see are two shadows on the grass.
One focused mother
Then, the person filming, along with the “deployed” son, make their way back to the tennis court. There, he can see his mom talking with her friend. But at this point, she hasn’t seen him. As she gets ready to serve the ball, you hear the son say, “She’s focused for sure.”
“Oh my God!”
But instead of serving the ball, she stops, walks to the opposite corner, and points to something. As she turns around, something on the other side of the fence catches her eye. Immediately, she crouches down, puts her hands to her mouth, and says, “Oh, my god.” Now, she sees her son.
Her baby’s home
She drops her tennis racket and then rushes as fast as she can to get to her son. She’s laughing and crying at the same time. Then she says, “What the hell?” With arms open wide, she and her son embrace. Even while watching the video, you can feel the emotion of their reunion.
She can’t stop crying
While wrapping her arms around her son, she sobs. What’s so cool is that the other people playing tennis stopped their game to watch. It was a magical moment between a mother and her son. She’s in total disbelief.
No more anxiety
She pulls away to look at his face but just for a couple of seconds. Then she tells him, “I thought you were in Afghanistan.” She again throws her arms around him. He’s holding onto her just as tight. As the camera focuses on the son’s face, you can see tears in his eyes.
People in the military are responsible for keeping our country safe. They deserve far more credit than what they get.
