With everything going on in the news lately, it’s great to know that there are still good people out there.
That’s what this story out of Waynesville, Ohio proves where a McDonald’s worker’s act of kindness totally made a mom’s day.
The mom’s name is Brittany Reed, and she shared the details in an inspiring Facebook post that has since received over 700k likes in less than a week.
It all started when she was on her way home from her son’s sports practice.
“Tonight as I was leaving football practice with my three kiddos my 4-year-old was so tired he started crying and acting a fool as we were getting in the van,” explained Reed.
A lot of people could sympathize with the mom’s plight.
Shuttling kids around to all of their activities is a full-time job, and when one kid gets upset, it often causes the others to get upset as well. Soon, Reed’s 7-year-old daughter began crying as well because she found out they were having red potatoes for dinner. Apparently, she doesn’t like the red kind.
With multiple criers screaming in the back seat, the mom had had enough.
She was very frustrated by the situation and she made the decision on the spot that they were all going to go to McDonald’s instead.
Reed soon realized though that the situation was about to get even more frustrating.
“We go through the drive through, order food, all three kids are now crying for one reason or the other, I go to pay – I LEFT MY PURSE AT HOME,” said Reed.
It was a disaster.
With three crying and hungry kids in the car, she didn’t have her money on her to complete the purchase. She was overwhelmed and the situation quickly had her crying as well. It was something that McDonald’s employee Wyatt Jones instantly noticed.
“I look at the young man with tears in my eyes just from being stressed and annoyed and say ‘hun, I am so sorry but I have to cancel that order I left my purse at home when we went to football tonight’,” explained Reed.
Jones didn’t even think about it.
He instantly knew how to remedy the situation.
“WITHOUT HESITATION he takes out his wallet and swipes his card before I could even say ‘no I will be right back!’,” said Reed.
It was a beautiful gesture.
The young employee paid for the family’s dinner with his own money and didn’t even give it a second thought. Reed offered to go home, retrieve her money, and pay him back, to which he simply responded, “no, it’s totally fine, my pleasure”.
“I just want his parents to know how KIND & COMPASSIONATE your son was tonight!” Reed said in her Facebook post.
“He made this stressed out momma pause for a moment and realize this is exactly what we parents are trying to do, raise great humans.”
Later that night, despite the employee’s resistance, Reed returned and paid Jones back the money.
She didn’t stop there though. The mom then took things a step further. She started a GoFundMe for the man titled “Be Like Wyatt”.
It turns out, he had taken the McDonald’s job to try and earn enough money for a car. Reed figured that if she could raise the money to buy him one, it would be an amazing way to return the favor.
The goal was just $5000.
However, within a week, the total donations amounted to over $28,000, or in other words, enough to change the employee’s life.
“Wyatt, do not let this world change your kind heart young man for its people like YOU that will change this world for the better!” said Reed.
Jones never expected to receive anything in return for what he did, however, that’s exactly what happened. His small act of kindness will now be repaid in a big way, yet, it is very well-deserved. We could use some more amazing young people like him in this world.
