Making friends as an adult can be a tricky thing to do.

Meeting new people and having the time to get to know them usually only happens at work or school.

But what about when school is over, and work isn’t an option?

One young man faced this struggle when he realized he didn’t have any friends and didn’t know how to make new ones.

Christian Bowers, a 24-year-old man from Minnesota, realized that since he had graduated from high school 5 years previously, he had lost contact with all of his friends.

Christian has Down syndrome and struggles to find a place to make new friends.

He was quite noticeably down about his lack of friendships when his mother, Donna Herter, took notice and decided to try and find some friends for her son.

Donna, a night nurse, posted to Facebook asking if there was anyone who would want to hang out with her son.

Her post had a few requirements to help narrow down the best fit for her son.

She asked for men aged 20-28 who lived locally and wanted to make a few extra bucks by hanging out with her son and playing video games with him.

Donna posted to Facebook at 4 am and when she woke up later that day to get ready for her night shift, she was shocked to find over 5,000 people had liked and commented on the status.

Donna was a little overwhelmed with all the responses and didn’t know what to do with it all.

People had commented with suggestions and advice for her and tons of replies from guys saying they would love to help.

Donna spoke to a lot of the men who responded and she eventually narrowed the long lost down to 7 people who she thought would be a good fit for Christian.

He met them and has bonded with each of them in different ways.

One of his new friends is a college student who is studying people with disabilities, another is a member of the Rebels biker gang.

Christian now has friends from all walks of life, and he is happier than ever before.

While they sometimes go out and participate in fun activities, all Christian really wants to do is play video games with the guys.

He just wants a few hours, one-on-one, with a normal guy around his age so that they can bond over their love of gaming.

When he does join in on extravagant activities though, Christian likes to go all out!

Christian was even made Mayor of Wentzville, a town nearby to where he lives.

He has also spent the day in the local fire station getting to know a few of the communities heroes, as well as going bowling with a squadron of Marines.

Everywhere he goes now, Christian is able to make friends and his mother says he goes to be every night with a smile on his face.
