We have proved time and time again that adults are not the only heroes walking around.

Even kids or teens can be brave enough to save another person’s life.

Young Dillon Reeves, a seventh grader in Michigan, is living proof that age is not a limit when someone is determined to help.

Dillon is a student at the Lois E. Carter Middle School in Warren where he takes the school bus daily.

It was Wednesday, and as he rode the bus home after school, his simple act of courage changed the life of many, including his own.

It was a regular day, and everyone on the school bus was excited to be home when the unthinkable happened.

The bus driver felt “some dizziness” while driving, so she alerted their “home base” that she was not feeling well.

She planned to park at a safe spot and wait for the transportation department to bring another person to complete the job, but this did not happen.

The woman passed out even before she reached her target parking spot, and no one was left in control of the vehicle’s steering wheel. The bus went out of control, and it started to move toward oncoming traffic, putting the lives of everyone on board at risk.

Everyone was in panic, except for one brave soul.

Dillon was sitting five rows from the driver’s seat when he realized that there was something wrong with the bus. They were going in a different direction and were about to be hit by oncoming traffic.

In the midst of all the panic from other kids on the bus, Dillon immediately “jumped up from his seat, threw his backpack down, ran to the front of the bus, grabbed the steering wheel, and brought the bus to a stop in the middle of the road,” according to Warren Consolidated Schools Superintendent Robert D. Livernois.

His calm and quick response is being commended by everyone and he is now hailed as a hero for saving everyone’s lives who were on the bus that day.

The superintendent calls Dillon’s response as “an extraordinary act of courage and maturity” and it is clear that he is right to say so when the video of the incident was shared online. The camera on the bus showed everything that transpired that afternoon, and true enough, Dillon’s act of bravery and kindness is definitely inspiring.

The video shows Dillon as he ran to the steering wheel and took control of it. He slowly and surely pushed the brake pedal to stop the bus and then yelled to the other passengers to call 911.

“Someone call 911. Now. Someone should call 911. I don’t care! Someone call 911!” he said confidently.

It is quite amazing to realize that the person who did all these is not an adult, but a young seventh grader who nobody would expect to be as brave and calm as Dillon was at that moment.

Dillon was able to secure the lives of all 66 passengers and did not damage any property when he stopped the bus.

“He had the wherewithal to push it slowly, likely in anticipation that the bus was full of passengers. So despite the justifiable panic on the bus, you could imagine this is probably a 66-passenger bus and it was full at the time,” Superintendent Livernois said further.

The first responders soon arrived at the scene and secured the place. The bus driver, who had no physical injuries, was taken to the hospital where she is currently under observation.
