Every morning, as the sun touches the earth, Marcy Gregg finds herself lost in a whirlwind of emotions.
But there’s one constant that brings her solace – the scent of oil paint and the feel of a canvas beneath her fingers.
For Marcy, painting isn’t just an art; it’s a journey through her memories, a way to relive moments that have faded away.
Marcy wasn’t always an artist.
At the age of 47, she felt a burning desire to paint. Despite not recalling her major in art at SMU, her husband encouraged her to follow her passion.
It was a decision that would lead her down a path of rediscovery and self-awareness.
But to truly understand Marcy’s story, we must travel back in time to when she was 17.
It was then that she met Dev, a 19-year-old with a captivating presence.
The two college sweethearts were inseparable, and their love story was the stuff of fairy tales.
From the way she wore her hair to the shirt she donned, Dev remembered every detail about their first meeting.
Fast forward a few years, and the couple was happily married and blessed with three children.
Life seemed perfect until a fateful phone call changed everything.
Marcy had fallen into a coma after bacteria invaded her brain. When she awoke a week later, she was trapped in the past, believing she was still 17.
The world around her was unfamiliar. She couldn’t recognize her children or recall her career.
Thirteen years of her life had vanished.
Yet, amidst this chaos, there was one memory that remained untouched – the moment her 17-year-old self met Dev.
It was a testament to their undying love, a bond so strong that not even amnesia could erase it.
While Marcy struggled to piece together her lost years, she found solace in painting.
Every brushstroke was a step towards reclaiming her identity.
Beneath each artwork, she inscribed a Bible verse, a testament to her unwavering faith that had guided her through the darkest times.
But life had more challenges in store for Marcy.
In 2017, she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, a condition that made it excruciatingly painful for her to paint.
Yet, she soldiered on, driven by her passion and the memories she yearned to capture on canvas.
Today, Marcy stands as a beacon of hope and resilience.
Despite the hurdles she’s faced, she continues to paint, cherishing each day as an opportunity to love, create, and remember.
Her story demonstrates the power of love and the human spirit’s ability to overcome adversity.
As Marcy gears up for her solo exhibit, one can’t help but marvel at her journey.
From a young college sweetheart to a mother of three, from an amnesiac to a passionate artist, Marcy’s life is a canvas filled with vibrant hues of love, challenges, faith, and determination.
And through it all, her spirit remains unbroken, inspiring us all to face life’s curveballs with grace and courage.
