As anyone in a longtime committed relationship knows, the “newness” of things can easily wear off. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s just that over time, things that were once novel aren’t anymore. Healthy relationships are all about doing and trying new things (that isn’t supposed to be an innuendo) and keeping things fresh!
After a few years, there aren’t that many things you don’t know about each other.
As the year go on, questions like “what do you like to do” and “what’s your favorite food” are pretty surface level because you’ve had so much time to get to know one another preferences. After 5-10 years, there aren’t that many secrets left to be shared!
Still, there is the occasional moment when you learn something about the one you love that you never expected.
It can be a hobby they used to be passionate about or a talent that you didn’t know they had, but there is always a little something hiding that comes to the surface. When it does show itself, you are amazed that you DIDN’T know that they could do that!
For one man, that moment turned into a viral video!
Chase Knight was in the car with his wife of seven years when he learned something about her that he never knew – she could sing! Chase is a Crossfit trainer and the two were driving through Kansas City, Missouri when his wife did something unexpected.
What was her hidden “thing” that she kept private all these years?
She could sing her heart out! Nearly a decade into their relationship at age of 33, Jocelyn decided to show her family she loved to sing. Chase didn’t just sit in the moment in shock, either. Once she started, he decided he was going to film the moment and he’s lucky he did!
The song “I Don’t Care About You” by Lake Street Dive came on and that was all it took.
“Can I tell you that it’s too late
that the rain will pour on in time
Many times that I ignored you
and it ain’t even crossed your mind
If you feel the urge to see me
Well you’d best pretend you’re blind
I don’t mean to be unkind
But all the reasons I left you behind
They should be clear now”
Better to sing it than to live it out, right? As she started singing, Chase’s face was basically glowing as he looked over at his wife giving it all she had! After a few lines, she looked over and realized she was being recorded!
When she saw she was being recorded she immediately let out a little smirk and stopped.
We all know the feeling of getting caught in the act of singing! Maybe it’s in the shower or even worse, someone pauses the song RIGHT as you get to the big moment. Regardless, we all feel a bit embarrassed.
Chase turned the camera around and asked his kids what they thought of “mommy’s singing”.
Their response? A bit underwhelming. They probably just don’t know yet that it’s a mom’s JOB to sing as loud as she can and embarrass the people who are watching!
