At just 4-years-old Zola Tomic began asking her mom when she could see God again.

She recalled their initial meeting from the day she said she passed.

That’s when the little girl said she found herself sitting next to God who looked like a rainbow and gave her a big hug, saying, “Thank you for being my friend.”

Before Zola was born, prenatal imaging showed she had a cyst on her brain and a white spot on her heart.

Thankfully, the child was born healthy.

However, she suffered many complications and was diagnosed with a rare condition called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome which affects her body’s connective tissue.

“They bruise easy. It’s a lot of pain, a lot of fatigue,” Brittani Tomic said. “What I tell people is that the condition itself is not life-threatening, but it has a lot of life-threatening complications.”

Zola’s experience occurred after she had her tonsils removed and started hemorrhaging after coming home from the hospital and going in and out of consciousness.

“The thing is, she never flat-lined when she was in the hospital,” Tomic said. “So it really was just, I guess, a near-death experience she might’ve had, or he came to her to calm her and stay with her.”

Zola recovered and never mentioned her experience until one day when her mom was getting her ready for gymnastics.

“It’s something even to this day that I still can’t even comprehend,” Brittani Tomic said. “I was getting her ready and, it wasn’t even like we were talking about anything God-related beforehand, we were just getting ready to go to gymnastics. And she just asked, ‘When can I see God again?’”

Zola told her mom that she’s “a passenger” and explained her encounter with Jesus.

“I was like, ‘Oh, that’s so amazing that you felt comfort, and you saw him,’” Zola’s mom Brittani Tomic told Inside Edition. “And that’s when she said that it looked like a rainbow and Jesus thanked her for being his friend and for loving him. And I just can’t explain it. I’m just so grateful she’s still here.”

Zola when on to draw pictures of God in her heart.

Sometimes Zola gets into arguments with other classmates over God being real, as not everyone believes her story.

“It makes me sad that people would think that way. And not believe. These are not things we put in her head,” Zola’s mom said. “She was saved physically and spiritually. She had an experience. She had gone through something that she can’t explain and most people can’t explain.”

Zola’s experience also saved her family and is helping to save others. Her revelation of the divine brought the Tomics back to church and inspired them to start a charity that helps other families who are also dealing with rare illnesses the one Zola has.

“It’s day by day, some days minute by minute and it’s just clinging on to faith and continuing to advocate for your child,” Tomic says.

Zola’s Zebras help families dealing offers a community and raising awareness for those affected by Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and other rare illnesses while bringing glory to God.

The organization raises money for charity, hosts blood drives, family fun nights, toy drives, and other donations to help bring cheer to the pediatric warriors and their families who are in the hospital.
