What’s most important is feeling good about yourself. But when your spouse or friends think you look like a hot tamale too? Well, that’s just the cherry on top.
Two women became the lucky picks for Ambush Makeovers on the TODAY show, and their results were gorgeous. One of the women’s husband even had a priceless reaction after seeing his wife’s new look!
It all started when the glam squad (hairstylist to the stars, Louis Licari, and fashion expert, Jill Martin) plucked the ladies from the crowd of hopefuls.
First up was 63-year-old Martha Bengen.
Martha had traveled to New York with her group of friends, all of the way from Bellingham, Washington. She was over the moon excited discovering she was going to be receiving a glamorous makeover – as they had a big event coming up. It was a fundraiser that involved meeting the governor!
Martha’s a huge fan of the Ambush Makeover segment, so was confident being in the glam squad’s hands.
She was actually open to anything they saw fit. When Jill asked her why she wanted the makeover, Martha replied:
“It’d be nice to have something other than grey hair for a few days.”
All of her friends were there for the big reveal.
Martha’s three buddies were blindfolded prior to her walking out on stage (which makes the reactions even more fun). And when she does finally come out, you might wonder – where did Martha go?
She looks fabulous with a shorter, blonde hairdo and a sexy black cocktail dress. Host Hoda Kotb made sure to warn Martha’s friends, “You’re going to freak out.” And that’s exactly what happened.
After taking off their blindfolds the group couldn’t hold back their stunned reactions. Martha was also excited about her stylish new look. She would be the belle of the ball!
The next woman selected from the plaza was 50-year-old Laura Radtke, who came in from Wisconsin with her husband.
While some people put a lot of time and effort into their appearance, Laura had never really been focused on hair and makeup. In fact, her husband Tom had been trimming her hair for 23 years!
Turning the big 5-0 was what inspired Laura to want to switch up her look.
Like others, she was thrilled to be picked out from the audience for a makeover. Tom was also on board for his wife to try out a new style. He told Jill:
“You can do whatever you want. I like long hair, but she would look beautiful in short hair.”
Laura was whisked away by the glam squad and pampered from head to toe.
After she was done, Tom was given a blindfold and sent to the TODAY show stage for the big reveal. While he was standing there unable to see – Laura stepped out looking like a brand new, younger woman.
Tom’s reaction is just perfect.
In the clip, the moment he sees his wife in a blue dress looking like a million bucks, he shouts, “Wow!” His eyes then well up with tears and he tells her, “I love it!”
The man gives his wife a loving hug, then the host passes him some tissues. It’s just so sweet how emotional he gets!
