Do you remember your days at school? Did you wish you had cool and funny teachers but all you got were strict and rigid rule-followers? Well, this following story will make your day! There are some students in Alabama that can definitely claim that their school principal is the coolest principal of the year.

Amidst COVID-19 and the return to schools in a couple of weeks, this Alabama high school principal thought to motivate his students to be vigilant about their “safety” and the spread of the virus, through a funny music video.

In a parody video of the 1990’s MC Hammer classic U Can’t Touch This. Dr. Lee goes around the school, wearing his face mask and gloves, monitoring his students’ activities while he tells them to wear their masks, sanitize their hands, and keep some distance between them.

Dr.Lee told the Alabama NewsCenter about the song and the production of the video, “I wrote the lyrics in fifteen minutes,” and “I called Jaylen and he came to the school to record. I had the video by 10 that night”. Jaylen Mitchell of City Vizualz is a local film director who helped with the production of the video which didn’t take more than 24 hours. In the video also appear three students and a teacher, who volunteered to participate.

In the video, we can see him lurking in corners, behind a vending machine, down the stairs. He is seen holding a measuring tape, a thermometer, and even a Lysol Spray, while he’s constantly trying to encourage the students to abide by the COVID-19 sanitary rules. Of course, his way doesn’t seem strict nor authoritative, but hilarious and it makes us want to burst into laughter while we comply with his guidelines!

In the interview he gave to the Alabama NewsCenter, Dr. Lee explained his motivation behind the creation of the video, as he said, “There’s no perfect plan, but we have to find plans that best meet the needs of the students”. He also said that “We have got to make safety a cool thing”; which is actually a brilliant idea and it could work with teens and young children.

Dr. Lee admitted that “It will be uncomfortable”, which is probably correct. It doesn’t seem to be an easy job to coordinate a whole school to work around the COVID-19 safety measures but as he further explained, “I’d rather be doing that than going to a memorial service because we were negligent.”

The video had great success with more than 5.9 million views and dithyrambic comments. One wrote “This principal seems like he actually enjoys his profession….he even looks like he would laugh with the kids but will drop knowledge on them in a heartbeat”, while another said, “this is the principal we all want”.

Well, with the beginning of schools in less than two weeks, students and staff must be ready to face the new reality in which we have been all living since last January, and hope that the era of the COVID-19 will soon come to an end!
