Our grandparents have a significant influence and role in our lives.
For some of us, our parents left us under their care while our parents went to work daily.
The first few lessons we have in life we learned from our grandparents.
They served as our guides when we were kids, and we also love them because they get to spoil us even though we didn’t know they were struggling.
However, as we grow older, we realize our grandparents’ generous love for us.
It would slowly sink in that they were too old to work at their age, yet they did because they wanted to help their family.
That’s just how grandparents are – they’re always selfless and want the best for their family.
And we know it would give them so much joy if we give back and say thanks for everything they’ve done for us.
Stefun Darts had one promise to God for his grandparents.
As young as second grand, he knew how much his grandparents had worked hard to provide for their family, and they continued to work hard to pay off the bills and their mortgage.
Young Stefun promised God that he would help his grandparents by paying off their mortgage someday to repay them for caring for him since he was little.
He worked hard; saved harder. And it didn’t matter what others said.
Stefun had microwave pizzas for dinner and preferred to eat at home to save money.
He would say no when his friends invited him to go partying, and he never had a date in a fancy restaurant.
His friends would call him boring, while some girls called him cheap. But that never mattered to him.
All that mattered was he earned the money to pay off his grandparents’ mortgage.
Stefun was a full-time college student studying Applied Science at San Jacinto Community College.
He found ways to earn money since he was in high school when he started working at a grocery store.
Other work experience includes working for a call center, in Pizza Hut, as a material handler for Exxon, and as a loan officer. He also got his license to sell real estate and life insurance.
That’s how dedicated Stefun was to his promise, and all that finally paid off.
His family threw a surprise party for his grandparents so Stefun could do what he had worked hard for – writing his first check for his grandparents.
They came inside and were told to look at their check; they had no idea.
Stefun presented the $15,000 check to pay off his grandparents’ mortgage, which moved everyone to tears.
“I promised God in the second grade I would pay off [your] house and help you retire. A promise I would never break. The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen, nor touched… but are felt by the heart,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
This wasn’t the only surprise he had for his grandparents.
He wanted them to celebrate this moment and give them a vacation they deserved.
So Stefun included a trip to the Bahamas as a cherry on top of his amazing surprise.
He knew his grandparents had always dreamed of traveling; this was the best gift he could give them.
