Reunions
Two friends reunite in assisted living facility after more than 70 years apart
The long-lost friends didn't even recognize each other at first because of how much they'd aged. However, it didn't take long for all the memories to come flooding back.

Reuniting with a friend you are close with is always heartwarming. There are just some things in life that you’ve experienced with a friend that other people wouldn’t relate to! Sadly, as we get older, many of the friends that we grew up with fade away and go on to live their own lives, never to recount old stories again. Occasionally, however, a surprise reunion brings back all the old memories that happened a lifetime ago!

For one woman, that was exactly what happened in an assisted living facility several years back.

Carol, the daughter of 93-year-old Clara, was feeling a bit anxious as she left her mother at an assisted living facility near San Diego, California. She knew that her mom wasn’t particularly happy with the fact that she didn’t know anybody in the building, but she was hopeful that she would try and make a friend.

That night, Carol prayed a silent prayer, hoping her mom would make a friend.

“Dear Lord, just let mom have one friend here that she could get to know.”

It was a prayer that any daughter would pray, hoping to help her aging mom find some comfort as she adjusted to a new place. As she would find out the next day, however, prayers are occasionally answered in the way we want them to be!

The next night at dinner, Carol introduced her mother to some people at dinner.

After introductions, one of the other women spoke up and mentioned that she too was from New Jersey, where Clara was from! The woman who spoke up was 92-year-old Dorothy, who then explained what she used to do in the state.

Dorothy had worked as a scallop cutter at Solar Embroidery Finishing Company many years ago, which incredibly, was located in Clara’s hometown.

The connection was deeper than just a town, too! 76 years ago in that embroidery shop that was literally across the country, Clara had also worked at the exact same time. Only 16, Clara had worked alongside other women, including Dorothy and Dorothy’s sister, Alice.

When they realized the connection, all the memories from decades ago started flooding back.

Rudy, Clara’s husband, was the manager at the factory. Once they realized they might have known each other, they started pulling out tons of old photos. After some sifting, they were able to find themselves in the photographs, along with their friends and deceased partners!

Soon after the photos were taken, Dorothy had moved to San Diego in order to join the WAVES (Women’s Reserve) station there.

Although it came much later, Clara eventually found her way to San Diego with her daughter, it was just 70 years later! The connection was truly incredible and the two had so much to talk about with one another. It didn’t take long for a simple prayer to be answered in an assisted living facility in San Diego.
