When filmmaker and director Laterras Whitfield became a foster parent several years ago, it was because of his sister’s drug addiction.

He wanted to take care of his nephew so that he wouldn’t have to move from one foster family to another, which would potentially ruin his childhood.

A couple of years later, back in 2017, he adopted his nephew LaDarrion, which officially made him a single adoptive father.

When the whole process had been completed and LaDarrion was his official child, Laterras knew that he would adopt again.

He just felt so much love for children who had been removed from home and he wanted to help them so badly that he decided to adopt again in the future if an opportunity arose. But this time it would be a 16-year-old.

Indeed, one year after his first adoption, Whitfield found himself in a situation that was obviously a sign from God that he would soon be adopting again.

“I’ve always heard, ‘be careful what you pray for,’ but I never knew it applied to mere thoughts. Through a local news taping on WFAA of their weekly Wednesday’s Child episode, I was introduced to Armani Green,” he told Black Love.

On Wednesday’s Child, the show features a child who has been in foster care for a long time and their adoption seems to be more challenging than others.

The episode featured teenager Armani Green in that episode. Armani had been in foster care for more than five years, while he had been homeless for some time before entering the system.

Growing up, he didn’t forget about all the homeless people he had or had not met during his time on the street, and he tried to do something good for them.

While many “Wednesday children” decide to do something fun when they are featured on the show, Armani chose to offer food and useful items to the homeless.

Social activist and foster and adoption advocate, Laterras Whitfield, was believed to be the perfect match-up for Armani because they both wanted to help the homeless.

So, after they filmed the episode and prayed together, Laterras knew that this would be his son from then on.

“During the taping, I looked at him, and at that moment, God spoke to my spirit, ‘That’s your son,'” Whitfield said.

Although Whitfield, who also has a 24-year-old daughter, didn’t seek to adopt before he remarried, he knew that this boy was meant to be his son, so he pursued his adoption until he officially adopted him in 2019.

Since then, everyone’s life has changed for the better.

“Adoption is a reciprocal gift. Sure, Armani was blessed with a forever home, but I have a loving, affectionate king in the making, who has helped me grow in many areas,” he said.

Whitfield is proud of all his children and he feels blessed to have them in his life.
