It was November 9, 2000, when firefighters Hepler, Holmes, and FF Brock responded to a medical call in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

When they arrived at the house where the emergency was, they found a woman who was about to give birth, and the baby’s grandmother, who had no idea what firefighters were doing at their home.

“The grandma said: ‘We didn’t call you, firefighters,'” one of the firemen who responded to the call recalled in an interview with FOX8. “I said: ‘Ma’m, as soon as the ambulance gets here, we’ll back out.'”

But that ambulance was just nowhere to be seen- as later found out, the EMT driver had gone on the wrong turn.

Soon, the mother told the firefighters the baby was coming.

Thanks to the three men having paid attention during their training for similar emergencies, they knew how to safely deliver the baby.

And it was not an easy delivery. You see, the umbilical cord had been wrapped around the baby’s neck and the men had to jump into action fast.

Thankfully, they knew what they were doing and baby Janae was brought into the world at 6:27 that morning.

Six months later, thanks to the grandmother’s initiative, the firefighters were reunited with the baby they had delivered a while earlier, and they were very happy to see her.

Since then, the girl never saw the men who helped the mother deliver her again. Until recently.

“That’s the first time I’ve ever seen a baby picture of me,” Janae revealed, “or hearing a story of me at birth.”

It seems that the now 22-year-old girl only recently found out how special her entrance into this world was.

Janae met the three firefighters who responded to that emergency call on that day 22 years ago, and she thanked all of them for helping her mother deliver her safely.

Janae’s grandmother was again the one who arranged the meetup so that her granddaughter could see and thank these men in person.

The elderly woman shared that she was determined to find these incredible men and she was happy that she managed to get in contact with them.

The firemen and Janae felt the need to hug each other. They just shared a unique connection.

“She was shy, but then she warmed up to us,” one of the firefighters told FOX8. “I was just so happy that she made it through life to be the person she is now.”

Indeed, bringing a baby into the world comes with so many concerns about the path they are going to follow in life, and meeting them decades later and realizing that they are the nice person you’d wish them to be can be so relieving.

The Winston-Salem FD shared the story on Twitter and people loved it.
