Swing dancing has been making a resurgence in recent years among the younger generations. However, a heartwarming video from the Pink Panther dance competition proves that we would all do well not to write off our older counterparts either.

They are the original swing dancers.

As the younger dancers in the audience clearly witnessed that day, age is just a number, and experience is everything.

It all started when the elderly couple stepped to the stage to begin their routine.

A version of the song “Down The Road Apiece” by The Refreshments began blasting through the speakers. The classic boogie-woogie song was first recorded back in 1940 by the Will Bradley Trio and it’s been a staple in the swing dance scene ever since.

No one ever expected what would happen next, but as soon as the couple started dancing, everyone’s jaws dropped.

How could they possibly move so quickly and so smoothly? Judging from the video, both of them must be nearing 80-years-old.

Their bodies aren’t as fit as they once were, however, they’re certainly showing no signs of slowing down yet.

In fact, we imagine that the couple has been doing this for decades, refining their smooth moves every step along the way.

Swing dancing is a style of dance that first came onto the scene as jazz was becoming popular in the 1920s.

As the years went on, it became more and more upbeat. By the time Rock N’ Roll hit it in the 1950s, people were jivin’ and doing the boogie-woogie at dance halls all around the nation.

This couple would have likely been entering their teenage years right as this crucial transition took place.

They’ve seen the various swing dance styles evolve over the years, all the way from the Lindy Hop to the Carolina Shag. They’ve learned a thing or two along the way as well.

The man swung his partner round and round as both of them kicked their feet from left to right.

They bounced around the room at a pace that would make most young people have to sit down and take a breather. The two of them might be old in age, but they are full of life. That’s for sure. The video is a bit grainy, but the giant smiles on both of their faces are clearly visible.

Everyone in the audience began clapping to the beat just as energetically too. It was a feel-good routine that everyone could get on board with.

YouTube commenters agreed as well.

“I love this couple. I have watched this many times, and I just adore both of them. Love how the crowd gets down!” writes Sharon Wallace.

Another joked that their style of dancing is even better than buying health insurance.

“It’s just like getting a Medicare Supplement!” writes John Balota.

Swing dance is certainly a good cardio exercise, not to mention, a great way of staying young.

It’s true that time only goes in one direction, however, the couple showed us that you are never too old to have some fun.

They put on the performance of a lifetime that day. However, in their minds, they were just out enjoying the time they have left, with each other. Their endless enthusiasm for swing dancing brings a smile to all of our faces.
