The power of Social Media is always amazing and fascinating.
With a simple photo or video, it can help change the lives of some people.
Let Taco-Bout-Joy.
A taco shop, Taco-Bout-Joy’s, in Glenview, Illinois has had this once-in-a-lifetime experience after a video went viral.
The video was captured by the owner’s daughter who posted it on TikTok.
It was captioned, “It breaks my heart to see my mom watching the door every day waiting for a customer to walk in.”
“I wish I could give her customers for Christmas.”
The video showed her mom sadly watching the shop’s door, but still eager and waiting for a customer to come inside.
She got a wish come true.
She never thought that this simple post would be shared and get the attention of not just the local community, but also nearby towns.
It caused an outpouring of support.
The video hit more than three million views and over 50,000 comments a day after it got posted.
In an interview with a TV News Agency she said, “I got a text from my sister.” Joy Milan said, “Hey, did you see that TikTok video? And I’m like, what video?”
The love hasn’t slowed down.
The line keeps on piling up all night long with the sudden fame of the small shop.
They close at 9 PM but Joy said they will not turn people away.
Customers were interviewed and shared their thoughts on how everyone has their own share in helping.
“I think it’s great. It really shows the power of social media,” said Steph Gunn, who lives in Des Plaines.
It’s a win for social media.
“It’s crazy to see something so close be so viral. And we just kind of wanted to be a part of that,” said Jeremiah Vicencio, who lives in DeKalb.
It’s drawing crowds from all over.
People even drove an hour just to support Milan’s business.
Maggie Furr, who now lives in Naperville, said, “I grew up in a really small town, so helping out small businesses. It’s just a big thing that I like to do.”
From no sales to sold out.
As more and more customers flocked, their supply could not keep up, and eventually ran out of Birria Tacos, according to their Facebook post.
More help was on the way.
Milan’s daughter said that family and friends, including the owners of Nina’s Tacos in Sycamore, decided to help out as the shop got crowded with customers throughout the day.
In a Facebook post by Taco-Bout-Joy, they shared their gratitude to the TikTok community, saying that they pulled through for them with an astounding sales revenue.
They dubbed it a “Christmas Miracle.”
“It feels great to accomplish something that I always wanted in life,” Milan said. “It is a dream. Yes. I can tell you’re getting emotional. I know I always get emotional when I talk about my dreams I’m sorry.”
This is not the first time that Social Media is used as a platform to share awareness and a call to action so changes can be made.
Milan and the rest of the shop’s crew are blessed to have a very supportive local community, backed by so many people on social media ready to help as well.
