It was a typical afternoon in a Washington County home, but suddenly, it turned frightening.

The residents were convinced that there was an intruder inside, and the bathroom door was locked tight.

They even saw shadows underneath the door.

Deputy Brian Rogers, one of the first responders to the scene, learned the backstory.

Two men, house-sitting for their nephew, had returned from a leisurely dog walk only to be greeted by unsettling noises from within the home.

Their immediate suspicion?

A burglar had made their way inside, and now took refuge in the bathroom.

With the gravity of the situation weighing on them, the officers prepared for a potential confrontation.

Rogers, armed with a long gun, was accompanied by a detective and another deputy, both with handguns drawn.

As they approached the bathroom, they heard loud sounds, almost like someone was attempting to escape through a window.

Strategy was crucial.

One deputy was stationed at the back of the house, ensuring the suspected intruder couldn’t make a swift exit.

With a collective breath, the officers pushed their way into the bathroom, ready to face the trespasser.

But what they found was far from what they had imagined.

Their “intruder” stood a mere three and a half inches tall and was about 13 inches wide.

The culprit?

A Roomba robotic vacuum, tirelessly bumping against the glass shower door in its quest to clean.

The room, filled with tension just moments before, now echoed with the officers’ laughter.

The situation, while initially alarming, had taken a comedic turn.

Rogers told KGW8 News:

“All of us just started laughing. I mean, what else can you do? It was funny.”

It undoubtedly a first in their careers, became the talk of the town.

Rogers’ phone was inundated with messages, and even at the sheriff’s office, the story about the robot vacuum “intruder” became a source of light-hearted banter.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, while amused, also saw the incident as a learning opportunity.

The key takeaway?

Always call for help if there’s even a hint of suspicion.

It’s better to be safe, even if the intruder turns out to be a diligent robotic vacuum.

In the end, the Roomba, in its innocent pursuit of cleanliness, ended up spreading laughter across the internet.

And while it may not have been the intruder the residents expected, it certainly left a lasting impression, proving that sometimes, life’s most memorable moments come from the most unexpected sources.

Naturally, it even led to a few vacuum jokes on Twitter like:

“These calls can really suck the life out of you” and “Looks like you got that ‘dirt bag’ 😉”

Another person wrote:

“That was one of the most tense then turned hilarious calls I’ve ever heard 🤣”
