Coach saves gymnast from a hard fall
It goes to show how coaches are willing to put their necks on the line just to see their prodigy succeed. All they want is to see their hard work pay off even if that means risking it all.

Being a coach means taking on the responsibility of improving a mentee’s skills. It means dedicating a whole lot of time and energy just to bring out the best in someone in the hopes of making them a winner, and better yet, a champion.

Now aside from honing a student’s abilities, coaches are also very much responsible for the overall well being of their trainees. Protecting their athletes is of upmost concern.

It’s every coach’s nightmare.

Eleven year old Cadence Tuite was doing her warm up routine on the uneven bars. She’s great. It’s all looking good until she reaches the high bar for a hand stand split. The moment she goes for a swing, her hands slip off the bar.

Cadence’s coach knew something was off. He catches her a split second before Cadence hits the floor head first. And the best part is that when he catches her, he flips himself over her so that Cadence’s body flips right back up.

What a catch, coach!

That fall could have been quite serious. Had it not been for his wits and sharp reflexes, Cadence’s gymnastics career could have been over in a heartbeat. And she’s only eleven.

“It did scare me a little. I knew I was falling, but, really when he was like rolling with me I didn’t know what was going on.”

Says the cheery young lady.

Her mom, Michelle, was in the stands when it happened. Imagine how she must have felt! She even mistook the coach for a mat that was rolled up around her daughter. But she’s more than thankful that’s for sure!

This coach is a hero.

Moments later, the brave eleven year old went on to compete in the event. And this time, she nails her routine perfectly. There’s no fear in Cadence as she grabs on to the uneven bars, flipping and muscling her way up and around them before she leaps off for a spin and a perfect landing.

High five, coach!

Now that fearless attitude may very well have been ingrained in her by this awesome coach too. How many kids would have the courage to dust off a nearly catastrophic fall and perform the way she did in the event? That’s right.

Cadence was in good hands that day. Hands that caught her and hands that applauded her performance. There are thousands of coaches out there but finding one with this level of dedication and commitment may be hard for most.

One viewer said,

“When you’re a retired ninja and decide to move to America to become a gymnastics coach.”

Possibly. This coach didn’t know it at that time but in an era of phones with cameras, his mind blowing save vaulted him into online immortality as a hero who saved a young girl and her future career.

Even the other girls were stunned.

If you replay the video, you can see the others standing around the uneven bars freeze in shock the moment Cadence’s hands slip. It’s only her coach who sprang in to action. And boy did he.
