Bartolo Valastro Jr, better known as Buddy Valastro was the star of reality series Cake Boss. He is the owner of Carlo’s Bakery and has made quite a name for himself. He is of Italian heritage with unbelievable baking and cake designing skills.
Food lovers and reality series fans know Buddy very well. He is one of those people on TV who can make your mouth water with his amazing creations.
It’s in the hands.
Like any artist, Buddy’s hands are his tools. He is right handed and that hand works magic. It was on a Sunday in his New Jersey home when Buddy and his family went through the unimaginable.
He was trying to fix the bowling pinsetter, which he’s done countless times, but Buddy says he got distracted and those few seconds of distraction cost him. Buddy tells Good Morning America what happened in a live interview.
Buddy’s in good spirits.
The celebrity chef appears on screen in a white shirt with a gold medallion around his neck with his son, Marco, right by his side. Very Italian. Typical Sunday in the Valastro house. They were getting ready to watch a Giants game when he went to fix the machine.
When Buddy turned his head, his right hand got caught in a fork. A metal rod slowly and repeatedly impaled the chef’s dominant hand three times between his ring and middle finger.
The chef was calm and on top of the situation.
Blood everywhere. Buddy’s sons and brother-in-laws ran over. He told them to get some tools so they could free him from the machine and rush to the hospital. Buddy looks at his son with pride saying that in five minutes, they undid a bolt and sawed of a piece of metal. Buddy jumped into his brother-in-law’s car and they sped off to the hospital.
That Valastro blood is stronger.
Marco takes over saying that he didn’t freak out as he knew it would make things worse for everyone else. The younger Valastro remained calm and just did what he had to do to help his father get off the machine. Together with his siblings and uncles, they worked as a team to rescue Buddy before rushing him to the hospital.
The future is frosty.
Buddy says it’s too early to tell what the future looks like but he is hopeful and praying that he makes a full recovery. The chef is forever grateful and thankful to all the doctors and responders who helped him along the way.
The chef took a video of what exactly happened to his hand and sent it to a doctor who then called him for another surgery. His friends have sent their well wishes and prayers for Buddy’s speedy recovery as well.
Nothing left to do but ice that cake!
Buddy posted on his Instagram page a photo of him with his family. The best part? The chef is icing a cake with his left hand! His caption is,
“Family time is the BEST time! Doing it all over again, left handed..”
That’s the spirit! They don’t call him the “Boss” for nothing! Here’s to seeing Buddy make a full recovery! Forza!
