Whether on television, via the internet, or in a newspaper, it seems the only things we hear about today are bad. So, it’s refreshing when a story emerges about something good. Learning about kind deeds is a great way to lift your spirits. Reading this story, which involves two strangers, is worth your time.
Just a normal day
For Alec Bailey, a city bus driver, this particular day was no different than any other. As he’d done thousands of times before, he made his rounds. He picked passengers up and then dropped them off at scheduled stops.
It was the same for Jacqueline Mason
Just like Alec, there wasn’t anything unusual about this day. She’d ridden the bus many times in the past. This time, she happened to board a bus driven by none other than Alec Bailey.
A big mistake
Everything was fine until Jacqueline realized something. Somehow, she got on the wrong bus. Immediately she broke down in tears. For her, this was a huge deal.
A special day
You see, Jacqueline was trying to get to Belfast where her aging mother was living in a nursing home. With the pandemic, it had been a long time since she’d last seen her. Now, she didn’t know if she’d even make it. Jacqueline was devastated because she didn’t want to disappoint her mother.
Noticing something wrong
Alec heard Jacqueline crying and noticed how upset she was. Rather than ignore her and just go on about his business, he had to find out what was bothering her. That’s when he approached Jacqueline and learned about the mishap.
A magical moment
In this type of situation, most bus drivers would simply let a passenger off at the next stop with information as to how to get on the correct bus. But Alec isn’t a typical driver. Her story tugged at his heartstrings and he knew he had to do something to help.
An unbelievable gesture
Knowing she hadn’t seen her mother in a long time, Alec came up with a solution. He did something that Jacqueline couldn’t believe. Instead of dropping her off at a random stop, he changed his entire bus route to accommodate her.
Angel in disguise
When interviewed by a news station, Alec had this to say. “A lot of people have had a hard time this year and her story just struck a chord with me. So, I decided to take a detour.” To him, it wasn’t that big of a deal but to Jacqueline, it meant the world.
Right on time
Alec knew he might get in trouble for changing his route but as he explained, “I’d just have to take it on the chin.” Thanks to his selfless act of kindness, Jacqueline made it to see her mom. And she was right on time for their scheduled visit.
So incredibly grateful
After the story leaked, Jacqueline was also interviewed by the news. She told the reporter, “He went beyond the call of duty. I can’t even remember what he looks like because my eyes were so filled with tears.” That’s how much Alec touched this woman’s heart on what started out as a normal day.
