2-year-old boy is abandoned at Goodwill with note and a change of clothes
Sadly, he’s not even old enough to know his parent's names.

Although it breaks our hearts, we are used to hearing about babies that are being abandoned at hospitals or fire stations. It is painful to think that parents can’t afford or don’t want to raise their children, but it is possibly better for those children to grow up with adoptive families that will love and care for them.

However, it is an uncommon sight to see a toddler being abandoned. Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean that toddlers don’t get abused or mistreated by parents who don’t want them in their lives, it is just uncommon to abandon them.

One of those rare cases was the one that took place last Monday at a Mississippi Goodwill donation center.

On December 14th at about 15:30 hours, a man was captured on the surveillance cameras bringing the boy into the donation center. He was holding a plastic bag and he was wearing clothes and accessories that hid his face and anything that could possibly lead to his identification by the authorities.

The man left the little boy there, reportedly telling the staff that the boy’s mom couldn’t care for him.

Inside the plastic bag, staff members found a note that read:

“child abandoned … no phone number for mom.”

The Goodwill staff immediately called the police, while they also tried to make the boy feel at home while they were waiting for officers to arrive.

According to the outlet, the toddler was not properly dressed for the weather when he was dropped off; however, he was in a good mood and played with toys while waiting for the police to arrive.

Unfortunately, the young age of the boy doesn’t allow him to know or to be able to provide his or his parents’ names. Still, he managed to show two fingers when he was asked how old he was.

“Upon knowing the child’s circumstances, we immediately reported the situation to police. Our security leaders are working closely with local authorities, including reviewing surveillance footagem” Southhaven Police Department representative said.

The sweet 2-year-old boy was first examined by the police and then taken to the Child Protective Services that will be deciding if and when the boy should return to his family.

“Child Protective Services follows strict protocol regarding matters of this nature with the child’s safety and health being the absolute priority,” SPD explained in a Facebook post.

Eventually, and thanks to tips provided by local community members, one suspect was apprehended, but no more information on that can be revealed since the case is still being investigated further.

The video reporting the case was uploaded on December 14th and it soon caught the eye of more than 54k people, many of whom offered to take the toddler in, if only for the holidays.

“We will take him, married couple with a 2 year old daughter who could be his new sister, kid shouldnt spend Christmas with out a home,” a YouTube user commented below the video.

It is amazing how many people offered to help the sweet little boy and it is heart-warming to know that this young soul is not alone. It has dozens of people praying for him.
