Life for all members of law enforcement, whether police officers, sheriff’s deputies, Rangers, Marshalls, and so on, is often tough. These people put their lives on the line every day to keep their communities safe. For the most part, they’re highly respected for what they do. But sadly, there’s been way too many stories in the news recently about pure hatred for the men and women who vow to protect and serve.

Keeping that in mind, one story made headlines for all the right reasons. After being shared on social media, it went viral. Here you had two complete strangers, not to mention of different generations, who come together in the sweetest way possible.

One little boy was raised to show compassion to others.

Barely over five years of age, Oliver Navejar’s mother taught him to respect everyone. Inside their Omaha home, they keep a dish filled with a variety of treats…not for themselves, but for delivery drivers. He loves passing it out as a simple way of showing appreciation for all their hard work.

Oliver’s heart is full of kindness.

His mom, Nicole, explained that Oliver’s kindness comes second-nature to him. She said on a relatively regular basis, he talks about what he and others can do to be nice to people. So, what would happen on one particular day right before Christmas didn’t come as any surprise to her and his other mom, Danielle.

It all started when a police officer from Omaha, Nebraska decided to stop by a food court to grab a bite to eat.

That same day, Danielle and Oliver visited the same food court. Oliver tells the story saying, “The policeman was sitting alone, so I wanted to be nice to him. So, I went over to talk to him and see if I could eat with him.” For Danielle, this was something she’d expect Oliver to do.

Danielle was overcome with pride.

When she saw Oliver approach the officer, she was so incredibly proud. This was him, his personality, his mission in life…to be kind to others. “I was getting him food, and I was, like, crying the whole time,” she said. She goes on to explain that after having lunch with a police officer, Oliver was over the moon for days.

He tells the story to anyone who’ll listen.

Danielle went on to say, “It’s, I mean, nonstop — he’s talking about his cop friend.” Although Oliver doesn’t remember the name of the police officer, it doesn’t matter. The experience left a big impression on a little boy. The officer, William Klees, was just as excited to have met Oliver and spend lunch with him.

We could all learn from Oliver and his acts of kindness.

It made his day. As Danielle put it, “It was really the highlight of his day because, you know, he doesn’t really get to have those good conversations. So, I think it really meant a lot to both of them.” Of course, she had to snap several photos to memorialize this special day.

Yes, Oliver made a new friend. But even more exciting, after having lunch with Officer Klees, this is what he had to say, “Since I ate dinner with one, I decided I want to be one when I grow up. The 45-minute lunch had a huge impact on a five-year-old boy and a grown man. I think Oliver sums it up best, “When someone bees nice to me, I’ll be nice to them.” [sic]
