“A dog’s love is only second to that of a mother’s.” ― Radhika Mundra
Indeed, this quote is accurate, and this story will be one of the many to prove it.
Jasmine Martinez hugged her son, 5-year-old Jose Muñoz, as they took a nap. When she woke up, Jasmine noticed that her little boy was no longer in the house.
She panicked and called 911.
Around half a mile from Jasmine’s home, witnesses saw a little boy walking with his dog on the train tracks near Cavalcade in north Houston.
HPD Sgt. Ricardo Salas went to the scene and saw little Jose and his dog, Alejandro, who never left his side.
It was about the same time that they received the 911 call from Jasmine, who was so worried about her little boy.
The mother felt so bad. Her son has Down syndrome, and every minute that passes means that her son might be in danger.
According to her, she believed her son was able to unlock the door and started wandering away.
His pet dog, sensing that the child shouldn’t go out, followed him.
“I looked on the map and said, ‘This is a far way for the child to walk all the way over here,’” HPD Sgt. Ricardo Salas said to KPRC 2.
Salas was so relieved to see that the child was unharmed. He felt amazed because his pet dog was so protective of him.
In one photo, as an officer gives Jose water, you will see Alejandro looking at the child, ready and alert in case something happens.
“The dog knew he had to go with him because he was doing something he was not supposed to do,” explained Salas in his interview.
Salas took the child had put him inside the patrol car. It was hot, and the kind officer wanted to give the boy some air conditioning.
He was stunned to see Alejandro following them and jumped into the car with the boy.
“Alejandro has always been a very overprotective dog since we got him, we got him when he was a baby. I was not surprised when they said he was walking with him the whole entire time,” said Samantha, Jose’s older sister.
The one-year-old dog is not just loyal and loving. Alejandro was also very protective, especially with Jose.
Their bond is special and beautiful.
Jasmine and Jose were reunited, and the mother cried tears of joy. She was relieved and thankful to the officers who rescued her boy.
Of course, she would be forever thankful for their beautiful Alejandro.
Jose was not hurt, even though they found him near the train tracks. He only had a few scrapes.
“Thank God this story ended very positive, we’re very thankful for that,” Salas said with a smile.
We’re so happy that little Jose and Alejandro were both safe, and we are still in awe of the heroic act of this lovely dog.
Alejandro is a blessing to this family.
