While the Amish community may entertain a different lifestyle than that of modern society, they still remain a part of it. In contrast to our fast-paced world, weaved with modern conveniences, they live in a much more simplistic manner. Yet, with this simplicity also comes curiosity from the outside in. Many have been left to wonder about the varying differences in their culture.

Fortunately, a woman on YouTube offered the unique opportunity to experience a brief glimpse into Amish life.

The video films the interior of an Amish home, shedding some light on their way of life. The video depicts some pieces of information many people already know about the Amish – including their desires to have a large family.

According to the town of Lancaster, Pennsylvania tourism website:

“The family is the most important social unit among the PA Amish; those with seven to ten children are not uncommon. This high birth rate feeds the growth of the community of Amish in PA, as does the fact that four out of five children choose to become baptized and remain in the church. Jobs, friendships and business opportunities provide incentives to stay.”

The exterior of the giant house is simplistic, with nothing elaborate, and painted white.

The video takes us to the large front porch, which is adorned with wooden rocking chairs. The Amish are master woodworkers and make their furniture by hand. That being said, no two pieces are alike and all of them are unique in craftsmanship. Their furniture is made with precision, passed down from generation to generation, and are long-lasting and quality.

The tour takes us into the house, accessing it through a large basement kitchen.

The basement looks as if to be a very large kitchen area, complete with a copious amount of storage. Self-contained, the Amish grow their own vegetables and husband their own animals, so a large kitchen is necessary to prepare their meals.

The kitchen also features an incredibly impressive canning wall – a testament to the art of preservation and self-reliance.

As the tour continues, you get the sense that this home fits many people. The camera shows another room, unidentified, but it contains a table covered by a quilt – perhaps a place for crafting to occur.

Moving on, the video showcases Amish bedrooms.

The bedrooms feature an almost tranquil simplicity. Everything is clean and tidy, there are no closets and no clutter. They merely contain a bed, a nightstand, a lamp, a window, and a coat hanger. A few contain rocking chairs. One of the room shows some dresses hanging up, they are very simple in nature. The gas lamps confirm the fact that the Amish do not rely on electricity for living.

The camera focuses out of the windows a few times, and pans around the property at the end.

The farm is huge, obviously situated on many acres. Many other housing units and barns accompany the property, supporting the Amish community who live and stay there.
