There’s something special about twins, and many sets of twins say that they share a unique kind of connection that just doesn’t seem to exist between siblings that were born separately, with some even able to guess what the other is thinking or finish their sentences.
Sharing a womb for nine months clearly has a big effect in bringing these people together, bonding them for life in a truly one-of-a-kind way, and even though twins are always unique and may follow separate paths in life, they’ll still always be connected, no matter what.
Being a twin is a special journey, and it’s an exciting adventure for their parents too, as they get to watch two identical or non-identical babies growing up side-by-side, experiencing all of their big ‘firsts’ together and making happy, magical memories with their moms, dads, and each other. Well, one adorable set of twins was captured on camera having their first little chat!
The twins in question are named Merle and Stijn. Merle is the lovely little girl in the pink, while Stijn is her precious brother wearing blue here.
They’re both absolutely adorable in every possible way, and they get even cuter once we hear them start to speak!
The clip shows Stijn being held up by one of his parents beside Merle, who is lying back and looking up at her brother. Instantly, the pair start to chat – in babyspeak, of course.
We wish we had some kind of baby translator to understand what they’re saying, but it’s fun enough just watching and listening to the little ones sharing their secret conversation.
At the start, Merle is looking a little serious with her wide-eyed expression, but she soon starts smiling and laughing when Stijn says hello.
With their gazes locked on one another, the two precious bundles of joy truly seem to be having a very serious conversation, gargling and babbling with an array of facial expressions while their amused papa can’t help laughing in the background.
It’s almost like the pair are sharing some kind of private joke, with one saying something, and then the other responding, and then both of them grinning and laughing for a moment.
Whatever they’re saying, it seems like a hoot, and even though it all sounds like gobbledygook to us, there’s a real possibility that Merle and Stijn actually do understand each other on some level.
The language phenomenon known as ‘cryptophasia’ describes a special kind of secret language that very young twins can sometimes develop and use to speak to one another. Only they understand it, and studies have shown that up to 50% of twins will create some form of secret speak to use together.
