Joan MacDonald was in her 70’s and, like most people in the same age range, was taking daily medications to help get by.

She had high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and acid reflux, as well as arthritis.

Joan thought she’d be on the decline for the rest of her life, until she decided to make a difference.

After doctors told her that she would have to either raise her medication levels or make huge lifestyle changes, Joan decided to put in the work.

At 70-years-old and almost 200 pounds, Joan knew it wouldn’t be easy but she also knew it would be possible if she had support.

Michelle MacDonald, Joan’s daughter, had been a health conscious person her whole adult life and knew she wanted to help her mother.

Michelle lives in Mexico where owns Tulum Strength Club, she is also a yoga teacher, competitive powerlifter, and professional chef. She was just the person her mother needed to help her make changes.

Joan went to Mexico for two weeks in order to learn as much from her daughter about healthy living and eating as she could.

Starting slowly, Joan increased her cardio to a 20-minute walk or bike ride everyday.

She also took up yoga and started weightlifting to strengthen her muscles.

In a 6 month timeframe, Joan was able to lose 45 pounds and has continued to lose, she now weighs 50 pounds less than when she first started.

By maintaining a fitness routine and eating better Joan has made drastic changes to her health.

She no longer has to take medication for her blood pressure or cholesterol, he acid reflux is gone, and her arthritis doesn’t pain her as much as it used to.

Joan also says that she feels much more energetic in her day-to-day life and that she feels comfortable in her own skin.

So many people were inspired by Joan’s transformation that she decided to open her own training business.

Her Instagram account, @trainwithjoan, is followed by almost 1 million people to whom she gives workout tips and tricks, and more importantly, hope.

Joan has proven that with hard work and dedication nothing can stand in your way of being a healthier you, not even your age.

Her first piece of advice for those looking to get healthier is to, first and foremost, believe it is possible.

She also recommends joining a group of people who are at about the same age and fitness level as you in order to receive motivation from them, and to give your own when others need it.

Joan recognizes that while every person faces different struggles and issues, if you find people willing to support you in your goals, you are much more likely to reach them.

“Even though you can’t turn back the clock, you can wind it up again.”
