A Message Of Peace

The racial tensions that divide and spurned the American community for over 400 years has finally reached its boiling peak. Masses are taking to the streets to fight tooth and nail against a system that has ravaged the streets with injustice and unforgivable acts of police brutality.

Consequently, people are sending messages to try and co-create a much better world by protesting their rights. Some are fighting the establishment by looting their businesses apart, while others are peacefully standing up for what is right without flinching for a second. Others, a 7-year-old-boy from Oklahoma, has swept the nation with a picture of him praying for a Tulsa police officer. The image has since gone viral on Facebook.

The young boy, Trey Elliot, was photographed by his mother, Brittany, Elliot, which showed Trey bent on one knee with this small hand held over the officer’s shoulder who can also be seen bending down. Trey and the officer’s eyes remained closed in prayer.

“Today Trey asked to pray for officers in the Tulsa Police Department,” Brittany posted on Facebook. “So that exactly what he did. This boy laid his little hands on officers to show them that we love and support them. If this picture shows you anything, let it be to pray for those around you.”

Funny enough, Trey has a goal and that is to talk to every police officer within the Tulsa Police Department. So far, he has made it to 12. “They seem like they’re in some really tough times,” Trey said, “I just think it will help them.”

As it turns out, “Works For You” brought more officers, four to be exact, so that he may keep sharing his powerful message. Trey offers these simple, yet kind words, “God, please protect these police officers, and their families, and their city. Amen.”

Inspiring One Officer At A Time

Khara Rogers, a Tulsa police officer, said Trey’s prayer gave her inspiration and even made her heart “flutter.” Following up the event, Trey also made an appearance Thursday morning with Police Chief Wendell Franklin and also shared a moment of prayer with him.

“Trey prayed for our community, police department and me today. It was an honor to meet this young man involved in his own mission to bring our community together. He is that mustard seed planted which yields a tree used by all” tweeted Chief Franklin about the interaction.

Brittany is truly proud of her son and all that he continues to accomplish. She says that the current state of her city has broken her into pieces, but that her son’s heartfelt actions have moved her to be a stronger person for him and everyone around her.

Moments like these are truly special to come by. It signifies how powerfully social movements can attract people including our nation’s youth. It should serve to remind us how brave the men and women fighting for justice are as well as the sacrifices these fights come with.
