When we do routine habits, we don’t exactly think that it’s the last time we’re going to do it.
If we did, we’d have appreciated it one last time and commemorated the event. Well, no, not really, but we’d definitely do what we can to remember it, right?
Can’t imagine what these last things could be?
Let us refresh your memory then.
1. Renting a video at Blockbuster
What was the last video you rented at Blockbuster? Did you return it? Blockbuster, as we all know, was the most famous video rental store all over the world. Even visitors from different countries visited a Blockbuster video because it was so popular. And then in 2010, Blockbuster stores started to close one by one. When did your local Blockbuster store close down?

2. Cleaning the computer mouse
There’s something so satisfying about cleaning a computer mouse. It seemed so cathartic to open the cover, take out the ball, and clean the inside with a cotton bud. So peaceful. And then the ball rolls off and disappears and then all hell breaks loose trying to find that damn ball! Don’t you just miss that?
3. CD mixtape
Who has ever created a mixtape with cassette tape or CD? We remember making so much of these! And then we just stopped. Do you still have your CD mixtapes?

4. Rushing to the toilet
We became sprinters because of this habit. And we learned to instruct our pees to hold it in until the next commercial. That’s why we’re careful about drinking soda during movies. It’s going to be hard to hold it in for at least an hour.
I feel sorry for Netflix era kids. They will never know the high stakes adrenaline of running to the bathroom/fridge/bedroom in a single ad break, with the beckoning call of a sibling screaming “It’s ONNNNNN” to send you hurdling over furniture to get back in time.

5. Played outside
When you were a kid, did you always get together with your friends to play outside? There will always be a nearby playground or empty lot and you’d have a blast there. Or maybe you’d camp out at a friend’s house to play.
Yesterday I read “At some point in your childhood, you and your friends went outside to play together for the last time, and nobody knew it”

6. Old school digital camera
Did you get so excited when digital cameras came into play? We can take more pictures! We don’t need to have the photos developed! It may be a little bulky and our computers can’t read the camera immediately when you plug it in. But it doesn’t matter. This is the future!

7. Checking on your SIMS house
So many people were so addicted to SIMS in the early 200s. Entire days were spent taking care of their SIMS family and houses. How far did you get with your SIMS community?

8. Checking the paper for the movies
Want to watch a movie? Let’s check the newspaper. And you won’t be able to check if the theater is already full until you get there. And sometimes, if you go there on a Friday night too late, then you would have lined up for nothing.

9. Carrying so many batteries for your discman
You always bring a backpack wherever you go because you needed a bag to hold your discman, CDs, and batteries. But it was always worth it. And you’re always so cool when you have your own discman. Everyone wants to be with you.

10. Cassette tape lyrics
We used to buy cassette tapes just for these lyrics. And when the tape doesn’t have it, it annoys us so much. Almost all our tape jackets with lyrics are so worn out because we keep them in our pockets so we can memorize the lyrics. Did you do this?

11. Orange VHS tapes
VHS tapes for children’s movies always came in special orange-colored tapes. They were always so rare and special. Do you have these and do you still have these tapes?

12. Instant messengers
Instant messengers have been around for decades. And when it first started, almost everyone was so obsessed with them. Remember A/S/L?

13. The last pizza
Sometimes, this rectangular pizza would be served at school lunches. And if they’re lucky, they’ll even add pepperoni! Did you have this in school? When was the last time you had this?

14. Download sharing
Remember Limewire? Everyone who uses the Internet at that time knew what Limewire was. There was no Spotify or Netflix. This is how we got music, TV show episodes, movies, and even books. Of course, at that time, we thought nothing of it and found out later this was all illegal.

15. Rewinding and going back
Thank goodness for VHS tapes! We get to watch movies in our home. But when we’re done with it, it doesn’t automatically wind back to the beginning. We had to use things like this to rewind the tape back to the beginning.

16. Manual GPS
Yes, we used a manual GPS to get us to our destination. We’d print out instructions and have a person read out the directions to us. Or if we’re super lucky, it’ll just be us in the car and we’d have to pay attention to the road while glancing at the directions and looking for street and traffic signs. It’s a wonder we’re still alive and in one piece all these years of Mapquest GPS.

17. Radio alerts
We still had to get up early on those days when the weather is so bad, school might be canceled. Because we only get announcements one way, through the radio. And sometimes, you’ll miss the announcement and have to call other people to confirm it.
Kids these days just get a push alert to find out that school’s canceled. They’ll never know the pure terror/joy of waking up early and having to wait to see their district come across the scroll on the morning news.

18. Limited text messaging
There was no autocorrect with text messaging before. And you had to press the numbers with your thumb multiple times to get the right words. Our thumbs really got a beating with this. And you can only stay under 160 characters or that’s another charge!

19. Hanging out by the box
What were these boxes for? Who knew? But they made the perfect hang out. Just grab some pizza and soda and this made an instant picnic table.

20. Loaned books
These books are nostalgic! It’s always a thrill to see someone you knew had borrowed this book before you. And it’s exciting to see how long ago it’s been since the first time this book was borrowed.
