The connection that siblings share isn’t one that’s easily forgotten. Even after decades apart, there is still that shared upbringing that connects siblings in a way like no other. In the story below, two siblings were able to see one another after spending 18 years apart… Let’s just say that the reunion was emotional!
Shawney and Luke were both born in New Mexico, growing up extremely close with one another as friends and siblings.
The two were extremely close, despite being kept in separate foster homes. Sadly, that wasn’t to last. Luke was adopted by his now-mom, but at the time, she wasn’t able to take both siblings in at the same time. For the brother and sister, it meant the end of their close friendship. Shawney was soon adopted by another family at only three years old, soon to move away.
The two grew up thousands of miles away from one another in totally different families.
Shawney’s adopted parents had their own biological kids, and soon she wasn’t alone anymore. Luke also had an amazing life with his adopted family, doing the things that every little foster kid dreams of doing. Still, as he got older, he never forgot about his little sister from years back.
Finally, years later, he decided to try and look for her.
Although he only had a first name, Luke began searching high and low for any clues as to where she could be. By this time, the two had grown up and were living lives of their own. Still, Luke refused to give up, knowing that his sister was out there.
Then, a miracle happened.
Luke sent a message to a woman on Facebook, hoping that this was finally the person he had been looking for. When he got a message back, as luck would have it, it was. He had finally found his sister. Now, the only thing left was for them to meet!
Luke was asked to go on the daytime talk show “The Real” where the crew had planned a meetup for the two.
Talking about the Facebook message, the cast on the show listened to the heartfelt stories he had. As Luke was recounting his memories, he couldn’t help but keep looking around, hoping to catch a glimpse of his sister somewhere backstage!
The reason the two haven’t been able to meet was because of the sheer distance between them – and the cost it would take to traverse it!
Luke lives in Baltimore while Shawney lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, essentially an entire country apart! Luke has a family and making the trek is rather tough. But, that didn’t matter this day – he was going to meet his sister.
When Shawney finally came out, they both IMMEDIATELY started crying!
After a round of hugs, it was official, they had been reunited after 18 years of being apart! The moment was exactly what they always hoped it would be. What’s funny is that they both chose the same thing for lunch that day and always get the same order from Subway. It’s clear they are related!
