For this little girl, she welcomed a new friend.

Brad Herring and his family had just come back home from a canoe trip. They were unpacking their things when they spotted a fawn coming towards them from the forest area at the back of their house.

The fawn went straight to his daughter, Maya, who was already kneeling down to welcome the fawn.

Maya looked like she knew what to do.

She beckoned the fawn to come nearer with her fingers. But Maya stayed still in her spot to show the fawn that she didn’t intend to harm the fawn and they’ll be safe.

The fawn might have sensed that Maya didn’t want to harm her, which made it easier for the fawn to approach Maya.

Maya was so excited, especially since she had just watched a documentary about deers.

“…what’s so cool about this experience was the fact that we let her watch North America on Discovery the night before this happened and she learned about fawns, why they have spots and how their mothers leave them in search of food…and how they sometimes become prey,” Brad explained. “She was so excited!”

They spent a few moments with each other before Maya and the fawn made their way to the forest to look for the mother and the fawn’s family.

Maya was so excited while the two of them walked together.

It looked like the fawn had been born only a few days because it was still getting used to the idea of walking.

Maya was super patient while the fawn took tentative steps. She was also patient when the fawn stopped to bask in the beautiful nature.

The two of them moved around until the fawn found a perfect spot to settle down.

Maya made sure the fawn was okay before she left. And judging from the way the fawn lounged on the leaves, she’s definitely settled.

“The fawn had a good sense about Maya and followed her every step. They were inseparable from the moment the met. Maya knew it needed its mother, who we believe was off eating and recuperating from the birthing, so she led it back to the woods until it finally hunkered down,” Brad shared.

They left the fawn in a good place where the family, especially the mother, can find the fawn.

Viewers who watched the video loved the little girl’s touch.

“I love how the girl is incredibly calm and collected about the situation. Most small children tend to scream and squeal at the sight of young animals, frightening them away. This young girl is very well behaved!” MeruluTV said.

“The deer was looking and waiting for her mommy. When she saw the little girl, she seemed to be wondering if the girl is her mommy. What a lovely and innocent moment. Then she seemed to feel like hiding herself in the bush and waiting for her mommy to come back to her,” Ryan Karl observed.

“I love that little girl. I can just see the understanding of other creatures she has. She is so gentle and respectful and never overbearing. She just gets it I can tell. I love that, true instinct of understanding at a very young age, that’s a blessing to be cherished,” Christina T. shared.

Wonder what happened to the fawn?

Brad posted an update. They saw two does and two fawns in their neighbor’s back yard, and a doe and fawn in their own back yard. It looks like they found each other!
