Whether from something witnessed in person or from watching online videos, there’s a good chance you’ve seen how some people turn unconventional things into magnificent homes. That includes cave, a storage container, or an old school bus. But one couple did something different.
A van
While traditional vans are great for transporting kids to and from various activities, a box van is the type businesses use to deliver goods. That means they offer more room in the back. One couple from the UK purchased a box van but it’s what they did with it that’s beyond amazing.
Meet Adam and Nikki
In the UK, the price of rent is continually increasing. Even for a small apartment, people pay a lot of money. This couple was tired of that so they came up with a crazy yet brilliant idea.
A fantastic purchase
Adam and Nikki pulled their money together and bought a Ford Transit Luton van on eBay. With an initial cost of just $4,500, it was an exceptional deal.
A labor of love
The couple then spent the next year working on the van. The goal was to turn it into a place they could call home. In all, they spent $6,500 on conversion costs and when finished, people were astounded by what they accomplished.
A tiny home
If someone says they’re going to transform a van into living quarters, you’d probably envision a bed and perhaps a place to sit…nothing more. But that’s not what Adam and Nikki ended up with. They now have an actual home that’s fully paid for.
An unbelievable transformation
Their van turned apartment is fully loaded with everything needed for a comfortable living. That includes a bedroom, kitchen, living space, and even a bathroom complete with a toilet and shower. There’s even a nice porch where they can relax outdoors.
Showing it to the world
Proud of what they accomplished, Adam and Nikki wanted to prove that other people could do what they did. So, they uploaded photos and videos to social media. Although the outside is unassuming, when people got a peek on the inside, they couldn’t believe their eyes.
Freedom to roam
Not only does this couple now have a home that’s paid for but also a vehicle to get where they need to go. So, they can travel wherever they want to go but without paying for a hotel room. They have more freedom now than ever before.
More than just functional
But here’s the deal. Yes, their new mobile apartment is fully functional but it’s a lot more than that. Inside, it’s beautiful. They did an amazing job creating a living space where they’re comfortable. It’s a home that immediately makes you feel welcomed.
Innovative and homey
As Adam explained, “The shower is powered by a separate 12v pump that sits in a bucket of water that can be warmed up on the stove. The toilet is a cassette toilet that pulls out to be emptied when it’s full.”
The interior décor is gorgeous. Inside, it’d be hard to tell this was a van as opposed to a traditional small apartment.
